Alex slowly walked down the gravel road, a bouquet of flowers in his hand. No one else was supposed to be there with him. When he felt alone, this was where he'd go. This was his spot.

"Mon ami! There you are." Alex's French friend embraced him in a hug. "We were worried, you didn't answer your phone."

Yeah, he turned it off.

"Sorry, I just... not really in the mood."

"I understand." Lafayette hugged him again. "Do you come here often?"

A small smile tipped his face. "Often enough."

"She was amazing. It's not your fault. You can't control illnesses."

Alex sniffed. "I know..." he placed the bouquet of daffodils on the headstone. "She was my best friend. We give our hearts and souls for the ones we love."
