After four long hours of school, it was finally the groups lunch period. Today was exhausting for no reason. John was sad because he didn't have a boyfriend. The group was trying to set him up with some random guy.
"Guys, I may be lonely, but I don't just want to go out with some random guy." John rolled his eyes.
"C'mon mon ami! He's is totally your type." Laf said.
"Who is this 'he' anyway?" Eliza asked.
"He goes to the high school in the district next to ours. He tripped and spilt his soda on one of my shirts at the mall. He's a nice guy. You'll like him, I promise."
"I don't know guys. I just don't feel comfortable going on a blind date."
"Please?" Peggy asked, throwing in her puppy eyes. John wasn't amused.
"I very high standards, Laf, Peggy. I'd never date anyone clu-"
"Guys!" Alex called from behind them. They all turned their heads. He ran towards them only to start tripping on his feet. He landed face first onto the floor. "Fuck," he groaned getting up and checking for a nosebleed. "Hi, guys!"
Alex looked at John's concerned face and offered a slight smile. John's cheeks burned. John wanted him, but he couldn't have him. He belonged to someone else.
"Hey, Eliza." He gave her a peck on the lips and sat next to her.
John bit his lip.
"Hey, babe." She checked his face for any bruising. "You need to be more careful."
Alex laughed, causing John's chest to tighten. He looked down at his sandwich like it was the most interesting thing in the world. He couldn't stand to watch their playful, couple banter.
Eventually, John just excused himself to the bathroom and escaped to the library to see the pet turtle they had in there. Despite all the weird looks he was getting from the other people in there, he talked to the turtle. He did that almost every day. When sitting with Alex and Eliza was too much, he would just sit there and talk to the turtle. It was nice.
