Chapter Thirty-Two

I lied about the time skip being on chapter thirty-one, it's on this chapter 😂 I plan for there to be another major time skip, I just don't know when. For now, enjoy the angst.

"I'm excited to meet my new sister!" Hanseok yelled, accidentally kicking the back of Taehyung's seat. Taehyung tried not to get annoyed with him as he knew the boy tended to get wild when he got really excited and the reason for his excitement was valid.

Over the past year, the only thing on Taehyung and Jungkook's minds were to move on from his old kingdom and work towards the improvement of their lives and their relationship. The benefits of being part of a royal family was having everything practically given to them so life did tend to get boring. Taehyung took on a medical class to cure his boredom while Jungkook took on being King Heechul's royal advisor and a trainer for their young children since the only thing he was used to was royal jobs.

Last year near the end of the year, Taehyung finally decided to bring up the idea of adopting. He had gone to the doctor months before, about a week or so after he revealed to Jungkook that he was infertile. The doctor delivered news that was better than what he was expecting: he wasn't infertile, but the chances of conception were incredibly low and the chances of carrying to full term were even lower.

They had a long talk about their options: trying for a baby, not having any kids, or adopting.

Option one had many problems: not only would the expected outcomes be sorely disappointing but it could also lead to possible depression and what would happen if they did manage to conceive a child? Would they manage to make it nine months with a healthy baby or would Taehyung suffer another miscarriage? In-vitro fertilization could be a good option, but the doctor warned them of possible birth defects and other problems during the pregnancy. The option of Jungkook carrying through in-vitro fertilization popped up as well, but Jungkook wasn't comfortable with that so they dropped it immediately.

Option two simply wasn't acceptable. They both wanted more kids and Hanseok talked about wanting a baby brother or sister several times with great enthusiasm. Their house was huge; there was way too much room for only three people. Taehyung wasn't able to see Hanseok for the first five years of the boy's life: he wasn't able to hold him, feed him, read to him or do any of the other parent-y things that mothers and fathers took for granted. He missed out on a lot of milestones: his first laugh, crawling, standing up, his first word, his first step. He wanted to know what it felt like. And Jungkook always liked kids and unofficially fathering Hanseok only made him want more. He adored the annoying nine-year-old.

So finally, they decided that adopting was best. They wanted to adopt a baby, which was much harder than adopting a kid or a teen.

It was December and they had been searching for almost two months when life decided to give be nice and give them a break. Taehyung was interning at a clinic with an OB/GYN when a woman who was five months along confessed to her doctor that she was planning to give her baby up for adoption. He didn't want to take advantage of the woman's distressed state, but he couldn't help but tell her that he and Jungkook were looking to adopt an infant and were still rather empty-handed. He gave her their address and told her to take as much time as she needed.

In January, she showed up unexpected, interrupting a moment of intimacy between the couple in the huge mansion. When Taehyung opened the door, he was met with the wide-eyed woman from the clinic, clutching her purse tightly with shaking hands. Taehyung introduced her to Jungkook and they sat down and had a rather short conversation. She simply stated, "I thought it over and Taehyung is so, so nice...I think I want to give her away to you."
