The dining area was full of nothing but tension.
Taehyung rubbed Hana's chubby arm as he ate and fed her while trying to ignore the glares or awkward looks between the three people before him. Hanseok seemed unbothered as he swung his legs back and forth and ate his food.
Jungkook was refusing to speak. His mother had tried to start a conversation with the former king but only received emotionless grunts or one-worded responses. Taehyung couldn't bring himself to say anything either, opting for giving his daughter or son attention when Mrs. Jeon glanced at him. He tried to push himself in his own little zone as he watched Hana eat, attempting to ignore the awkward atmosphere that was seemingly only growing as the seconds ticked by.
"Daddy, I'm done," Hanseok suddenly spoke up, grabbing all of their attention as his voice sliced through the thick coat of silence.
"Do you want more?" Taehyung asked, wanting desperately to get away from the table.
"No, I want to go play," the eight-year-old said, "can I go outside?"
"I'll take him," Jungkook spoke up immediately, "I'll watch him outside."
Taehyung glared at Jungkook as the older man grabbed Hanseok's plate and carried to the kitchen with Hanseok in tow. Taehyung didn't want to be rude and leave with them but he felt even more uncomfortable with it being him and the two unwanted guests sitting at the table. He knew one of them didn't like him at all while the other was just seemingly faking a tolerance for his presence. And Jungkook knew that as well, but clearly, he was desperate to get out of the situation just as Taehyung was.
Minutes ticked by and Taehyung was thankful when Hana started to get whiney after finishing her bottle.
"I'll excuse myself now," Taehyung said, "if any of you need anything, just ask."
He carried Hana to her room, whispering thanks in her ear as she started kicking her fat legs and her face scrunched up as she held in a sob. Once he made it to her room, he placed the three-month-old on her changing table before fetching her diapers and heated wipes.
As he changed her diaper, he found himself looking out the window by the changing table. It displayed the side of the house where Hanseok's play area was located. He could see Jungkook stretched out on the patio, using his arms behind him as support while Hanseok leaned over the railing atop his playset and attempted to flip over it. The attempt failed but the wild eight-year-old wasn't bothered as he jumped up and tried again.
Taehyung frowned. He hoped Hanseok and Jungkook dried the play area or else Hanseok would get soaked from the rain last night.
He looked down at Hana who was no longer interested in crying but instead playing with her hands and shoving them in her mouth. Taehyung leaned down and blew raspberries on her squishy tummy, taking her attention from her hands. Hana gave him a look that seemed as though she was questioning Taehyung's actions which only made him laugh as he did it again. She released a huff followed by happy leg kicks before deciding to push her foot against Taehyung's cheek.
"You're really good with her."
Taehyung flinched and dropped the infant's sock. He whirled around and frowned when he saw Jungkook's mother standing in the threshold of the nursery.
"Thank you," The startled man replied as he turned back to face his three-month-old while also glancing back at Mrs. Jeon.
"How old is she?"
