chapter 23: mech battle *

As we all tried to gather our bearings, that damned, giant, mech was closing in on us with each heavy footstep! Oh yeah, they called it the rose phoenix. I remember now...

"Alright team, think of the mech's arms as your own! Your rifle is on your back. It's a twin barrel, automatic assault rifle that fires energy pellets. By twisting your wrist in a quick motion, your wrist energy blade will come out. Opening the palm of your left hand in a quick motion, creates an energy bomb. Finally, the shoulder rockets are launched by drawing your arms back in a quick motion. Why am I saying energy this and energy that? Because, it's all running off your vessels power supply! Judge and guage your attacks accordingly or you'll have no energy to your shields or worse, your mech will shut down temporarily and you'll be a sitting duck! " hanzo explained.

"There's no time for questions or further explanations. It's do or die, here they come! " midora said, drawing her rifle and firing.

Everyone else struggled to find their guns and would accidentally either fall or activate their blades. Hanzo would make and aggravated sigh, before everyone finally got their act together. We all opened a can of whoop ass on the towering mech, making plasma splatter and sizzle onto the ground as the flamingos cackled. Nothing hurt em, that damned plasma was protecting it!

"Kahahahaha!! Fools! We're invincible like this! Your pea shots won't penetrate our armor!! " the flamingos laughed in unison as they fired a barrage of missiles at us.

We all took evasive maneuvers, dashing away from the explosions. These didn't fling plasma, those were probably reserved for their giant rail gun they have on their right hand. As I dodged the explosions, it was starting to get too close to the mech, so I decided to take cover.

As I was about to take cover behind a pillar, Setsuna yanked at my controls, making the mech vere off course and fall over as missiles whizzed over head.

"What the hell?! " I asked her, in a angry tone.

"I'd you hide behind the pillar, they'll destroy what we have left of our home!! " she said angrily.

"You want us to die over some ruins!? I know y'all have used the crystal in the past to come back over and over, but last I've checked.... It's cracked and barely revived San! " I shouted at her.

"Hide behind any of the ruins again, and I'll take control myself.... " she said in a serious tone.

I growled as I got the mech off the ground and resumed fire at the rose Phoenix. I tried the missiles on my mech, it would fire eight, high powered energy missiles at the beast. It would generate large splatters of plasma, just enough to see the energy shield underneath. Unfortunately, getting out of missile mode and into rifle mode took too much time, which gave it more than enough time to cover the spot in plasma.

"Can we go back to flying?..... I miss that already.... " teguma said, after being silent this entire trip almost.

"Nah big guy, makes ya more vulnerable! " I said through the radio, to which he grumbled a bit. Being a tengu, it must make him feel uncomfortable being unable to fly, poor guy.

Damn, every time we try to do a full scale attack on the thing, those maniacs make us dance to avoid their missiles. They're not even using their plasma rail gun at all, do they think we're a joke? Are they taunting us?! Every time I even think to take cover, so we don't take any hits like we've been, Setsuna would shoot me a glare! What can we do?? I barely was able to send out missiles at the thing, before being pelted with missiles myself!

-use the pillars.... - said a mysterious, yet familiar female voice.

I looked around for the source of the voice.

-use what you can to stop them... - said another mysterious female voice, but this one had a slightly more mature pitch to it.

"Who are you?" I said out loud, as Setsuna looked at me oddly.

-I cannot be there to protect you, nor to fight, but please.... Please use the ruins to protect yourselves.... It's all I can do to help.... - said the younger voice

"Who are you talking to sven? Are you alright?" Setsuna asked, seemingly worried about my mental state.

-no one can hear me, their minds are all in panic.....sven, tell them.... Serenity the first and second said to use the ruins for protection! Their lives are more important than an historical landmark! Please!- they both said in unison before fading.

I immediately did as I was told and used a fallen pillar for cover. Setsuna became enraged and was about to snatch the controls, until I shouted over the radio....

"Queen serenity the first and second said to use the ruins for protection! Our lives matter more than an historical landmark! It can be rebuilt, we can't! " I said, as setsuna withdrew and nodded.

"Queen.... Serenity? " said Haruka.

"The first.... And second? " said teguma.

"Well ya heard the man! Fall back into the ruins! This battle is now going to be a lot more easier!" Said hanzo, as everyone fell back to the ruins and took cover.
