Lindsey lay on the bed in his hotel room, hands clasped on his chest, feet crossed at his ankles, staring up at the ceiling. He was pouting like a small child, whose favorite toy had just been taken away from him. He'd never consider Stevie his toy, but her 30-year-old new boyfriend had just taken her away from him. The worst part was, he had no idea for how long. Was Dave going to stay just the one night or two, three, till the end of the tour? Lindsey didn't have much time with Stevie left as it was, he hated that somebody had to interfere.
Sighing heavily, Lindsey rolled onto his side and tucked his arm under his head. He couldn't help himself, thinking about Stevie and Dave, he wanted to know, what they were doing. Or mabe he didn't. The thought of another man touching her appalled him. He needed a distraction.
Reaching for the phone, Lindsey dialed the number of his own, fairly new girlfriend. He knew he had feelings for her, but they were nowhere near as close to as what Lindsey felt for Stevie. Actually, the very thing that drew him to Kristen was that she slightly resembled his said ex.
"Hey." Lindsey spoke up, when Kristen answered.
"Oh, hello. I wasn't expecting a call from you." And she sounded like it, she sounded busy and distracted. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I have some free time. I thought, I'd check up on you before rather than after the show. I always call so late."
"Well, I'm doing just fine." Kristen replied and Lindsey thought it sounded like she had covered the receiver and spoke to someone else that was with her. "What about you? How's your day going?"
"Fine, I guess."
Silence.
"Is that all?" Kristen asked, sounding impatient. "I'm kind of... I'm a little busy, Lindsey."
"Oh, well then, I won't keep you." He quickly said goodbye and hung up the phone, turning onto his back to resume his pouting.
Meanwhile, just a few doors down, Stevie's expression mirrored Lindsey's, without the two of them knowing. She was still slightly tingly, thinking about him, ahem, doing what he did no more than half an hour ago. She was already missing him.
"It's so good to see you." Dave seemed excited and Stevie believed that he was. "I've missed you so much." He smiled at her, his hands settling on the small of her back.
Stevie placed hers on his chest, subconsciously stopping him from getting any closer. "I've missed you, too. You've really surprised me, coming here."
"Mick helped me out, then Karen. I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to ask, which room is Stevie Nicks staying at, at the reception." Dave laughed lightly, slowly swaying from side to side with her in his embrace.
"I'd be writing a complaint if they'd told you." Stevie joked looking up at him.
It broke her heart. She had a perfectly good man by her side and yet, she couldn't move on from Lindsey. Still, after all those years. The worst thing was that Dave was so innocent in a lot of ways and he wouldn't even think about suspecting Stevie of anything. She sincerely doubted, she might still have a future with Lindsey, yet a part of her wondered if breaking up with Dave, before things got too complicated, was for the best.
"How long are you going to stay with me?" Stevie asked and saw Dave's face fall instantly.
"Unfortunatelly, I'm leaving mid-day tomorrow."
"Oh, so soon." She said, not overly disappointed. "Well, we'll used the time we have. Mick has already set up a dinner party after the show tonight. I just didn't know, you'd be among the guests." Stevie added, hoping she didn't give herself away. "You'll finally get the chance to meet everyone."
"Yeah, I want to know, who the people are, you've spent decades around."
"That just makes me sound old." Stevie sighed, but Dave cradled her face in the palms of his hands.
"You're not old." He said, leaning in to capture her lips. The only thought, running through Stevie's mind, was that the kiss felt so different compared to when Lindsey's lips were pressed to hers. "And after the dinner party..." Dave trailed off, a smile formed on his face.
"I'm all yours." She said, covering his hands with hers, she pulled them away from her face. "Now, however, I need to take a shower." So he wouldn't have the chance to say anything in order to stop her, Stevie grabbed several items from her suitcase and headed for the bathroom.
She desperately needed to wash Lindsey off her body.
