Lindsey opened his eyes slowly, allowing them to adjust to the light. He groaned, rolling onto his back, he stretched his muscles. He wasn't sure, when he went to bed exactly, but Lindsey didn't feel rested at all. He lazily got out of the bed and wearing nothing but his boxers, he made his way downstairs and into the kitchen for a cup of strong coffee. He put the kettle on, then moved over to his answering machine. Lindsey was surprised, when he found out he had received a number of messages from Christine, the last one being a lot more elaborate than the ones before, which made him dial Christine's number right away.
"What the hell is going on, Chris?" Lindsey asked as soon as he heard his friend's voice on the other end of the line.
"You tell me! I tried reaching you a hundred times yesterday and you didn't bother to pick up once!"
"I know, I'm sorry. I spent nearly the whole day in my studio, then went to bed." Lindsey explained, leaning against one of the kitchen counters, his arms folded over his chest, the phone receiver trapped between his ear and shoulder. "What's going on? Is Stevie okay? You said, you had something to tell me."
"I seriously shouldn't, she's probably going to kill me, Lindsey, but I can't keep my mouth shut any longer." Lindsey frowned as he listened. "Stevie's gone mad. I guess, you don't know anything about it, but she's getting married."
"SHE'S WHAT?" Lindsey yelled, gripping the receiver tightly in his hand. "What the fuck are you talking about?"
"Stevie and Dave's wedding, it's tomorrow." Christine added. "I'll soon be on my way to the airport to Maui. It's a beach wedding, then we're all celebrating at Mick's. That is if you don't get there and crash the whole thing..."
"I can't believe this..." Lindsey trailed off, shaking his head. "After everything I've said to her, the letters..." He was more talking to himself than Christine, but she didn't interrupt. "When does the ceremony start?"
"1 pm." Christine replied, then added. "I'd really appreciate it if you didn't snitch, Stevie's going to get so mad at me if she finds out, but I thought you had to know. She's making a mistake, Lindsey. I know that you love her, that you still care even if you have been separated for a while now. And she loves you, too. She's not thinking straight."
"I won't, I swear. Thank you so much, Chris. Thank you." Lindsey repeated himself, said goodbye and then hung up.
Taking a deep breath, Lindsey ran a hand through his hair, then exhaled. He was so lost, he had no idea what to do. Of course, he wanted to crash the wedding like Christine suggested, but... was it truly the right thing to do? Stevie surely had thought it all through and decided that marrying Dave was what she wanted. What if she truly had moved on? What if he went to Maui, interrupted the ceremony and made a complete fool out of himself, because Stevie didn't want anything to do with him anymore?
Lindsey didn't have a lot of time, but he spent a good while thinking what to do. Stevie clearly believed that she loved Dave enough to get married. Did Lindsey love her enough to step back and let her be happy, even though her happiness didn't lie with him, or was he still hopelessly in love with her so much so, he'd invite himself to her wedding and ruin it?
