"Before I leave..." Lindsey trailed off, letting go of the door handle.
"Yes?" Stevie asked, standing a step away from him, wearing only her nightgown.
He quickly closed the gap between them and gave her a lingering kiss, then backed off and pressed theirs lips together several more times.
"Go already! We'll see each other in like an hour." Stevie chuckled, her hands on Lindsey's chest, while his were clasped on the small of her back.
"I just can't get enough of you." Lindsey pressed a kiss to her hair, before pulling away. His eyes lingered on her for a second longer as he then finally opened the door and left Stevie's hotel room to return to his.
A smile remained on Stevie's face, once she was left alone. She didn't have a lot of time to shower, get dressed and get ready to board the private jet for the very last show of the Fleetwood Mac tour, so she had to be quick. On one hand, she was glad they'd be all headed home soon, on the other, she was afraid of the unknown. Was what she and Lindsey had just another short-lived affair? Or could they possibly continue on with their renewed relationship? She shook her head, thinking about it. How could they go on the same way? Dave was waiting for her at home and Lindsey was going to return to Kristen, a skinny, 20-something-year-old blonde - every guy's, going through a mid-life crisis, dream. She couldn't compete with that. Lindsey just had to be missing his girlfriend and Stevie was the closest option, the next best thing. They still had 24 hours or so together and she shouldn't have entertained such thoughts, but... Stevie knew herself and Lindsey. How many times had they tried before? Every single attempt ended up in tears.
With everything packed yet again, Stevie was sitting in the back of a black SUV with Karen next to her. The carefree mood of the morning had vanished and Stevie felt like she might burst into tears at any given moment. She took her sunglasses off the top of her head and placed them on the bridge of her nose as she turned to look out the car window.
Naturally, Stevie was the last one to arrive. The rest of the band had already boarded the plane, when she got out of the car. She saw that Lindsey had saved her a seat beside him, but maybe flying alongside Christine would have been better. His wide, sincere smile tore her heart to pieces. Becoming friends again was nice, she'd missed him as a friend. All the sex didn't hurt their relationship either. However, the worst part of it all was that she had fallen madly in love with him all over again.
"I've got you this." Lindsey placed a neatly folded blanket into Stevie's lap. "But hey, it might benefit us both."
She laughed lightly, covering his hand with hers. "You're so thoughtful."
He could read her like an open book and Lindsey immediately knew that something was wrong. He didn't bring it up until liftoff, but once everybody settled in, Lindsey leaned in closer and cupped the side of Stevie's face, turning her head to face him.
"What's wrong, Steph?"
"What? Nothing's wrong." She shook her head, pulling his hand away from her face. She could tell he was slightly hurt by her action, so she laced their fingers together instead under the blanket he'd given her.
"Come on. I can almost hear you thinking."
Sighing, Stevie looked him in the eyes as she chewed on her bottom lip. She felt herself getting emotional, but she didn't want to cry in front of everyone else.
"I'm scared, Lindsey."
"Of what?"
"I'm scared that what we have right now is only going to last until we land in LA tomorrow." She said, casting her eyes down.
A tear slipped from her eye and Lindsey caught it with his finger. Using the advantage of sitting in the back of the plane, he pressed his lips to her cheek, only slightly touching the corner of her mouth.
"It doesn't have to be. Everything depends on you and I." He shrugged. "If we want to, this can continue."
That particular scenario sounded impossible. Stevie brought her hand up to her eyes, shielding her face, hiding the stream of tears rolling down her cheeks. "Not here." She sniffled. "I- I can't talk about it right now."
"Okay, I understand." Lindsey nodded, laying his head on her shoulder, he quickly kissed the side of her neck. "But please, talk to me later? Don't shut me out. Don't make up your mind just yet."
Lindsey became instantly more worried, when he didn't get any response. With their hands still clasped, he sat up straight in his seat and shut his eyes, feeling a headache coming. He didn't want to believe that they were already over. He couldn't stand her leaving him again.
