(Y/N)'s P.O.V
"So you're gonna spend the night?" Larry asked Sal.
He nodded his head and a smile definitely popped up under the mask. I could almost see it in his eyes.
"Hell yeah, my dad doesn't mind. Plus I'm not leaving you two high and alone. That's a recipe for disaster" he joked.
I cheered and jumped up and down. "Sleepover, hell yeah!"
"What's the sleeping situation?" Larry asked "Usually (Y/N) and I just share the bed but Sal, you can have my spot if you want"
I looked at them both and shook my head "no no, you guys have the bed! I can sleep on the floor, I'm not going to take that from you guys!"
"No it's okay! I can sleep on the floor!" Sal piped in. "It's really no big deal."
This of course, started a small argument. We went back and forth about who was going to sleep where, who's gonna share the bed and who would be on the floor.
In the end, somehow I was the only one on the bed, and the two boys were on the floor.
They're so weird I swear.
I looked over at Sal and Larry laying there. Larry wasn't wearing a shirt and had sweatpants on, and Sal had a tshirt on with some PJ pants that had little cats on them.
That's so fucking cute.
I changed into a tshirt and some PJ shorts because that was the most comfortable for me. I wasn't sure if it was because he was high, but Larry was so tired.
Before I knew it, we had turned the lights out and Larry was dead asleep.
I leaned on my elbow and looked at the floor.
"Hey uh Sal?" His head turned to look up at me. "Do you sleep with that on?"
He shook his head "No, I don't"
I stayed quiet a moment.
"You don't have to keep it on in front of me Sal" I suggested sighing. "I know it's hard to keep up a front, and especially a physical one. I don't want you scared."
"I know" he simply said.
"And hey, look around. I can't see shit in the dark either way. And I guarantee you, I'll be asleep much longer than you in the morning"
No words were said for a little bit but I could tell he was hesitant.
I then heard a clicking and metal noise indication he had taken his mask off.
"Hey sally face, never put your comfort ahead of your fear. That can make life hard to live." I said curling into my pillow comfortably.
"Thank you" his voice almost sounded different, not behind his prosthetic. A bit clearer but still the same old Sal I've come to know and love.
"Goodnight Sal"
"Goodnight (Y/N)"
***
I can't remember my dream. Or rather, my nightmare. It happens a lot, where I get really bad dreams and I wake up in a panic, but don't remember them.
A doctor had once told me it could be a natural defense mechanism in my brain, to make me forget so I don't have to deal with the fear. He hadn't seen a case like it exactly, where nothing could really be recollected, but I was still always in a panicked state when I woke up.
My body jolted and I sat up in the bed, quietly gasping for air. Tears streamed down my face gently and I gripped my clothes on my body.
"(Y/N)...?" I heard. Sal tiredly sat up and hopped off the floor. I couldn't tell what was happening in the dark, and he knocked something over making him curse under his breath. He fumbled around and I heard him strap his mask back on. "H-hey hey I got you"
I hiccuped lightly as Sals hand rubbed my back, giving me all the comfort in the world that he could offer.
My eyes burned painfully, so I squeezed them shut trying to ease the feeling. "I-I'm sorry" I stuttered through my cries.
"Don't be sorry... did you have a nightmare?" He questioned, making me nod. "I get them too, don't worry. I understand. You're with me now and I've got you. You're okay."
My sobs became less and less violent, until I was just a sniffling mess. "W-what did you knock over?"
"Oh uh..." he mumbled awkwardly "the glass with my uh... eye in it"
I paused and snorted quietly "I can h-help you clean it up"
"Hey why are you laughing at me?" He had humor in his voice.
"The idea of you s-scrambling and knocking over a cup with an eye in it, proceeding to s-say 'ah shit. fuck.' is j-just funny to me" I admitted, causing him to laugh with me.
"Cmon" he said delicately. Sals hand met mine and he moved to the end of the bed so I could avoid the water on the ground. With his other hand, I heard the sound of the glass eye hitting the inside of the cup, and he held it firmly.
We quietly made our way to the living room and I looked to him. He seemed a little tired, almost like he didn't get too much sleep. I felt so bad for waking him up.
I noticed he was missing his one eye too
"I never really noticed" I gave him a half smile "you look great either way"
His eye met mine, earning a chuckle "Thanks (Y/N)"
As he washed out the cup and the eye inside of it thoroughly, I stared at his figure as a whole.
He was just. wonderful to look at. And I didn't want to look away.
"Your eyes are puffy" Sal stated, turning to me, with the cup once again full of water. I walked to the bathroom and grabbed a towel, ready to wipe up the mess in the room. "were you crying before I was awake?"
I shrugged and sighed. "I don't know... maybe? I was probably crying in my sleep"
He simply nodded and walked up to me. "I think you look great either way too"
I blushed hard and chuckled, tiredly rubbingmy eyes.
I really didn't expect him to plant a kiss on my forehead through his mask. It was the cutest thing I've ever experienced. His lips didn't make contact with my skin but he made a little kissing noise when the mask did.
My heart melted.
As I stood there in shock, he walked passed me and cracked the door open.
Quickly, I followed behind him and shut the door again.
Sal set the new cup on a ledge, so that it wouldn't get knocked over as we cleaned. I threw the towel onto the ground and mopped up every last drop of his eye water. Heh. Gross.
I yawned gently, as being in the dark and crying so hard made me incredibly exhausted.
"I think you cleaned it up" Sal pointed out. "Why don't you get some rest?"
I was hesitant. "I-I dont know.. I'm worried I'll have another nightmare.."
The room was quiet as I sat on the bed awkwardly.
"Alright then," he stood up from his spot and sat beside me. "I guess I'll have to protect you until you fall asleep"
His voice was gentle, sweet, and caring. It gave me butterflies as his hand landed on my opposite shoulder with his arm wrapped around me.
We shifted our position, and I covered myself in the soft blankets. I didn't know exactly how he wanted to lay but somehow he ended up spooning me, and it was the most comfortable way I could ever sleep.
He was so warm and I never wanted it to stop.
That was when I heard his mask click off and carefully hit the floor.
I felt his breathing and it put me at so much ease. I felt closer to him.
It was a strange feeling. Knowing Sal was behind me with his mask off, the warmth of his breath tickling my neck as he snuggled against my hair. He wasn't just a mask and it was really good to feel it.
"Sweet dreams Sal..." I trailed off feeling my mind drift.
"Sweet dreams (Y/N)"
