Chapter 14
“Audrey?” someone said pulling me out of my sleep. “Audrey, can you unlock the door?” I moaned and turned over, rolling off the bed. I walked to the door and unlocking it allowing Jace to walk in. “What took you so long?”
“I was sleeping,” I said closing the door again.
“Sorry,” he smiled. “Dinner’s over and you wanted me to come up here afterwards…so here I am.”
I rubbed my eye and walked back to my bed. “I’m going back to sleep.”
Jace walked beside me and put his hands on my hips. “Do you want me to stay in here with you again?”
“Why…?”
“I want to stay in here. Chord is staying over here tonight and I’m not leaving you alone and defenseless with him in the house,” Jace said into my shoulder.
“Okay…” I said. “Go to the other side…this is my side.”
Jace sighed but walked to the opposite side and slid in just as I did. I rolled my eyes and lowered myself onto my side, facing Jace. He reached up and pushed my hair behind my ear gently. “Goodnight, Audrey,” he whispered.
“’Night, Jace,” I breathed as he closed his eyes slowly.
I shut my eyes and felt sleep come and take over. I fell into a dark sleep…no dreams…It almost felt like I was…I don’t know…dead. I knew tonight I would sleep extremely well.
“Oh my God, get that bitch up,” a voice said pulling me out of my sleep.
“Lisa, she’s not a bitch. Now stop. I will wait until she gets up,” I heard Jace say.
“Then let’s just go she’ll never know we’re gone. I’m starving and I don’t like her,” Lisa replied.
“Lisa, she’s my fiancée I respect her and I would like her to come get breakfast with all of us. Allan and Greg don’t mind waiting for her to wake up on her own,” Jace snapped.
“Yeah, because they think she’s hot,” Lisa growled.
I sat up and glared at the both of them. “Just go to breakfast dammit,” I snapped making both of their heads turn towards me.
“Good going you woke her up,” Jace grumbled at Lisa.
“Me? You’re the one who was trying to make a starving me wait for your girlfriend to wake up. Gosh she is just like Lindsay,” Lisa snapped. After a second a look of realization and then regret colored her features. “I am so sorry, Jace I didn’t—“
“Yes you did. And it’s true. She looks like…acts like…and even talks like Lindsay,” Jace nodded. “Maybe that’s what attracted me to her.”
I looked between the two. “Who’s Lindsay?”
“My old fiancée. She was a secret and apparently she was depressed but…I didn’t know that when I took her. She had over dosed on her medication the day I took her. I didn’t know about all of that when I first saw her I just…thought she was beautiful and…perfect,” Jace explained walking to me. “And she was…she was just sick…I would’ve helped her get better.”
