EJ POV-
I was waken up by someone shaking me. The room was black, all I could see was a figure.
"EJ wake up, time for practice." Uncle Dennis whispers.
"What time is it?" I question looking around.
"5:30. Come get up."
I groan pulling my soft blanket up over my head.
"I'm too tired Uncle Dennis , can't we do it later."
"I told you EJ what would happen if you want to be and actual superhero. If you don't want to do this just tell me now."
I do, I really do want to do this. I want to learn to control my powers so I can help people. I want to be a superhero.
I push the blanket off of me and get up turning on my lamp, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
Uncle Ben smiles at me patting my shoulder.
"Alright, wear something you can move around in. I'll be downstairs making you something to eat."
He leaves my room closing the door quietly. I get up and go to my bathroom to get ready.
-10 minutes later-
I walk downtown wearing some gym shorts, a tank top with my seater over and my running shoes.
Uncle Dennis is sitting at the table eating a bowl of oatmeal. I see another bowl next to him so I guess that's for me. I sit down next to him and mix the food around still half asleep. I put my head in my hand and slowly start to fall asleep.
"EJ!" Uncle Dennis whisper yells.
I immediately wake up looking around confused.
"Come on bud, eat your food so we can go."
I nod my head and eat my oatmeal slightly falling asleep. When I'm done we head out the door and go to the car. We drive for awhile and I try to keep myself up by thinking of what happened yesterday.
Ricky.
Every time I think of him I get butterflies in my stomach. I've never felt that with Nini. What does that mean? I look out the window to see we're in a place I'm not familiar with.
"Uncle Dennis where are we?"
"Don't worry we're almost there, just a couple more miles." He says, his eyes focused on the road.
After a few miles we get to what looks like...a gym? Why would be at a gym if we are practicing my powers.
We get out the car and walk inside.
There's a women at the front desk who looks up and smiles at us.
"Hey Dennis." Says the women.
"Hey Terrie." My uncle waves.
"And who's this handsome young man?" She asked making blush.
"This is EJ. My nephew I've been telling you about."
She looks at me and smiles.
"I've heard so much about you EJ. You go to East High, right?"
I nod my head. "Yeah i do."
"Ok that's great! My daughter and I moved here 2 months ago and she'll be going to East High in September." She says.
"Oh, that's cool I'll be sure to introduce her to my friends, and she can hang out with us the next time we hang out."
"Thank you EJ, I think she'll like that."
We go to the back door and walk down the stairs. We get to another door and my uncle gets his card out and scans it. The door beeps and we go inside. It's a big area with a bunch of work out equipment. There were some other rooms where I see people working on suits.
"Holy shit!" I say.
"EJ!"
"Sorry, but this place is amazing."
He chuckles and nods his head for me to follow him into another room. I see a big glass screen and a couple office chairs. There's another guy there and he stands up to greet us.
"Hey Dennis, and you must be his nephew EJ."
"Yeah." I say nervously.
"Great I'm Dustin. You ready to go through some test runs?"
I'm actually scared, why am I scared. No. I can't be scared, I'm training to be a superhero and superhero's aren't scared. Uncle Dennis puts a hand on my shoulder.
"If you don't want to do this you don't have to. We can go home-"
"No. I'm ready." I say giving him a small smile.
"Ok just go through that door." Dustin says pointing to the steak door.
I open it and go in the all white room. One of the walls was glass and I could see uncle Dennis sitting down. It must be to protect them. "Alright bud show us everything you can do."
I showed them all the powers I could do, making a force filed, moving stuff with my mind and my invisibility, which I s still a work in progress. They also ran some test to see if I had any other powers. We found out that I had super speed, and teleportation, but I could only move 2 feet away from where I originally was.
"Alright it's about 9 o'clock. Do you want to take a break?" Dustin asked.
"No! I wanna do more stuff I'm not tired anymore."
"Ok well we don't have anything else to practice so how about you check the place out while I go work for a bit."
"Ok!" I had a lot of energy for some reason.
I walk around the area and watch other people practice. Some people could fly, make wind and have fire come from their hands. There are so many other people like me, it makes me feel... more normal. I pass by a room and see two ladies talking. One of them looks up at me and smirks, she closes her eyes and she shifts...into me! I jump back startled and then smile. She smiles back and damn! I have a nice smile, she shifts back to her normal form.
I walk away and wander around the hallways looking at a bunch of pictures of past superheroes, then I freeze. My dad is up there.
Edward Caswell: Mr. Bionic.
"I heard he was the best superhero in Utah." A voice says.
I look to my side and see the girl from before.
"Yeah, he was also the best dad." I respond smiling at he picture.
"Oh yeah, how would you know?" She asked.
"Because I'm his son."
She looks at me with wide eyes and an apologetic face. "Oh. I'm sorry I didn't-"
"It's fine." I say smiling and at her.
"You go to East. High, right?" She asked.
"Yup, I'm a junior."
"Cool I'm a senior."
I nod my head.
"Brookelynn, Brookelynn Elizabeth." She says holding her hand out.
"EJ Caswell." I say shaking her hand.
We start talking and getting to know each other. I find out that her Aunt has powers too but her parents don't know. She has the ability to shape shift into anything she sees and can communicate with others through her mind.
Uncle Dennis comes towards me with a smile on his face.
"Hey Brook I see you've met EJ."
"Yeah he's really cool." She says smiling at me.
Her phone dings and she frowns. " I have to get home, told my mom I was working out I'll see you around EJ."
She walks out the door and I look at Uncle Dennis . "She's nice, do you work with her?"
"Yeah, sometimes, I'm also working on her suit and yours."
I stand up in excitement. I get to have a suit!
"Can I see it! Please!"
Uncle Dennis chuckles. " It's not done yet I just started programming it."
I frown. I really wanted to try on the suit.
"But it should be done in about a month or so."
Ugh that's too long. We walk out the door and up the stairs entering the entrance. I see a bunch of other people here working out.
"Do they have powers too?" I whisper.
"No these are just people who come here to work out. The bottom floor is for people with powers and you can only get in with a card like this." He says showing me his card.
I nod my head and we start to head out the door.Uncle Dennis is on his break so he said he'll drop me off home.
Before we leave I go to the front desk to ask a Terrie a question.
"Hey, Terrie what's your daughter's name. So I can tell my friends we have another crew mate."
She laughs. " Crew mate, really?"
I nod my head laughing too.
"Her names Gina."
"Gina, got it."
Ok so what do you guys think about the gym. It kind of got the idea from the Minion Movie.(If you watched it you'll understand.) Also I decided to make Matt's girlfriend a side character in this book. (They are sooooo cute together tho🥺😊🥰! It makes me feel so lonely 😂) also we will get have Gina in the story, yay! anyways stay safe and don't forget...
