Ice Cream

Tears started escaping my eyes. I shut my eyes close and tried to calm down. 

I heard Mommy sighed and called Ella.

"Pero Mmy-"

"Verella." her tone was like a cold cold stone.

Walang sabi-sabing umalis ang dalawa. Isinubsob ko ang mukha sa balikat ni Lola at humagulhol.

"Why did you listen to D-Deila? What if something bad happened to y-you? Lola..." she hugged me.

"Apo, I did that for you. How can I let your stupid mother-" umiling ako at lumayo sa kanya.

"No." I placed both of my palms on my face.

May humawak sa akin at isinubsob ako sa dibdib niya. Naamoy ko ang mamahalin niyang pabango. He is Xy. Mas lalo akong humagulhol at inilabas pati ang sama ng loob ko sa kanya.

"I hate you." his hug tighten.

"I'm sorry..." naramdaman kong hinalikan niya ang ulo ko.

I can hear his fast heartbeat, just like mine.

Bumitaw ako sa yakap niya nang gumaan na ng konti ang loob ko pagkatapos ng ilang minuto.

"Are we okay now?" I asked him.

Tumango siya.

I smiled.

Lumingon ako sa likod at agad nakita ang mga mata ni Deila, ang mga matang humihingi ng tawad.

"Nell..."

"Sa bahay tayo mag uusap." malamig kong wika.

Xy sat beside me and I almost jumped when he held my hand. Doon ko lang napansin na nanginginig na ang mga kamay ko.

He held my other hand. "Why?" he softly looked at my eyes.

Umiling ako. "Hindi ko alam."

"Nella..." he made our eyes met.

Bumuntong hininga ako. "Nawala na sa akin si Papa, Xy."

My tears started to pool my eyes again. "Maybe, the fact that I'm afraid to lose another family again. Another loved one. I c-can't anymore." my tears fell as I shook my head.

Niyakap niya ulit ako at humikbi ako sa dibdib niya.

Deila hugged me from the back. "I'm sorry Nell, I really am." I felt her tears on my shoulder.

"Why did you do such a thing Deila?" I rolled my eyes.

Tumawa siya, akala niya siguro ay ayos na talaga kami. "Maniwala ka, para rin sa'yo yun."

I glared at her. "But you can't risk Lola's health! Do not laugh that way like what happened earlier was just a show, Deila Jace. Paano kapag inatake si Lola kanina?"

Tumungo siya, ngumuso at tumango.

I sighed. "And that 'for me' bullshit! How can I understand that if I don't know what you're pointing out."

Bumuntong hininga silang lahat. "Nella..."

"When will I know? And do not ever ever do something like that again just for me to benefit from something I do not exactly know."

"Malapit na nga."

"Give me an exact date," I intently said.

"Hindi pa namin alam, pero ngayong buwan." bumuntong hininga si Deila.
