November. The month of thankfulness and gratitude.
A month where all would occur at once, activities were sprawled upon several calendars, with couples gleefully enjoying each others time together.
You were simply happy, and always found to be in a giddy demeanor.
It was an incomprehensible feeling, no matter how difficult you tried, nothing could decipher this pleasant sensation.
Leaves fell, and the air was crisp. Change would arrive, and it would cycle over again. It was change, yet it always felt the same.
Morning arrived and just like any other day, you rose from your bed to attend work.
It was still quite early, considering how the sun was hardly visible. The sun was bleak and blurry, shrouded behind large dark grey clouds.
It was darker than usual, and the air heavily smelled of damp earth.
You pulled your covers off and grudgingly sat up. You feebly stretched and reached an arm out to your phone where you checked the date.
It was November 22.
Your heart throbbed.
Shinya's birthday.
It always remained the same. Every year that date would arrive and you always paid your respects to the young general. You'd gaze longingly in his direction as admiration bubbled within you. A small smile would surface as you attempted to hide it away with shame. But despite this, he never noticed you, much less acknowledge you as an individual. You would never meet him personally, only being capable of watching from afar. It would be an atrocity to approach the Hiragi. You simply could not bring yourself to greet him or congratulate him.
Just like everyone else.
He could care less of who you were. Not even if you encountered him once, it would mean nothing to the Hiragi.
It was harsh and cruel, but it was the reality.
It's not like it mattered anyways. You knew the chances were slim. Why hope for an impossible wish?
You sighed as you lazily rubbed your face, wiping away any traces of sleep out of your system. There would be no time to waste.
You swung your legs off the bed as you slipped your slippers on and made your way to the bathroom.
You didn't do much to yourself, only a few corrections here and there. You erased small blemishes and imperfections by burying it underneath with foundation. Then, you curled your eyelashes and applied a sheen to your lips.
Your simple yet proficient look was complete and you walked out before stopping right in front of the door.
"It looks like it's going to rain..." you muttered, as you quickly grabbed an umbrella.
◇◇◇
Rain softly tapped outside your window reminding you of your own troubled emotions.
By now the office was near empty, resulting from several workers leaving early that day. Those who remained weren't ecstatic either, many of them tiredly grumbling or whining to themselves.
It was still quiet though, except for the hum of machines and the rain outside the building.
You were overwhelmingly distracted and lost focus on your job. But it didn't matter, since the pace of the office was fairly slow compared to that of the battlefield. You allowed yourself to relax and daydream, freeing yourself from the apocalyptic reality.
