The Hunters Become The hunted

I have both Zulu and New Dog resting by my bed after what they have been through. New Dog is grieving the lost of his owner, Chris, yes, Chris is dead now too.

While we were hunting, the feathered tyrant, seemed to already know we were following it. It pretended to be alone for a while so we assumed the meat eating bulls were gone away, we shouldn't have fell into the trap so easily but we did. Once we sent the dogs in for the strike attack, the two horned minions came out of the forest charging, clamping down on our dogs in a coordinated attack.

Zulu managed to knock New Dog out of the way and we retreated back. The Feathered tyrant walked slowly towards us, making coos almost like it was laughing at us, the nerve of it.

Zulu didn't listen to my commands to retreat, instead he was more focused on protecting the tribesman and dogs. Zulu jumped at the horned minions and chomped onto its neck when it tried finishing off a downed dog. The creature's arm were too small to get him off. This allowed the tribesmen to shoot their arrows and take down the horned minion.

The Feathered tyrant was not pleased, he let out a monstrous roar that caused the remaining minion to become increasingly aggressive. When Zulu tried to launch at it, it turned around and slapped him hard with its tail, knocking him into a boulder.

I, of course quickly ran over to make sure he was okay. He was going unconscious and I was trying my best to make sure he didn't. The horned minion approached us, ignoring the arrows the hunters were shooting into it. I raised my arrow at it but New Dog jumped in front us instead and tried to repeat what Zulu did but the minion caught him early and clamped its jaws onto New Dog, the cries New Dog made were horrifying. Zulu tried to stand up to help but he quickly fell back to the ground. That's when Chris ran over and stabbed the minion in the leg with the spear, it screeched and dropped New Dog before turning to Chris and bit into him, lifting him off the ground but with one final motion, Chris used his arms to stab it through its throat, they both were holding on, the minion biting deeper and Chris pushing the spear further. After a few seconds, Chris's body fell limp and the minion dropped it before stumbling off then dropped only a few feet away.

The tyrant was not pleased and rushed over letting out another ferocious roar, causing the remaining dogs to run. New Dog and Zulu were on the ground weak but Zulu stood up, almost falling down again a few times but he stood tall. The tyrant went after the tribes men. Zulu and I stood in front of them as it rushed towards them. Zulu howled into the air gathering the dogs back. The tyrant skid to a stop and roared again but Zulu barked at the dogs to stand their ground and they did. The tyrant hissed angrily before the tribesmen began to fill it with arrows, it fled before it could be killed. We didn't go after it, instead we got the bodies of the fallen men and dogs. They were all placed on the sled Chris had commanded, New Dog and Zulu were also placed on it so they didn't have to walk. The men hauled it back to the village. I helped New Dog and Zulu with their wounds once they returned and now they're resting.

Alias seems upset with himself, upset that he allowed the thought of vengeance to have our tribesmen, including Chris killed. He took it on himself pretty harshly and began to doubt himself as a leader. I felt bad for him but after what happened with Jaecer, I just didn't feel like offering any friendly support. It's crazy to me how the rest of the tribe would just grieve then move on, like normal humans do, yes but this was different. It was more like "yeah, they died and we hate it but it happens", like all these deaths in such a short period of time was normal. It shouldn't be normal, it should be devastating, is this what I have to get used too? Death and despair all around?
