it was a light day in the bau, almost all paperwork had been filed, and you were all going to the bar soon, the game only played to avoid boredom and keep the mood at least somehow lighthearted even while flipping through murder cases. hotch, surprisingly, didn't have a problem with you all doing this, seeing as the last case you all had worked hadn't gone too well.

it was a stupid game.

truth or dare was a stupid game.

a stupid game you were forced into playing with spencer, derek, penelope, and emily.

jj had decided to (intelligently) watch as everyone involved got themselves into trouble, only laughing along at what we forced each other to do or answer, occasionally chiming in with an idea for a dare or a remark.

you, however, had not been as intelligent as she had, and were now stuck playing this stupid game.

it was currently your turn, and you sat in your desk, glaring derek, who rested his chin in his hands in mock thought. "hm, what should i do? pretty boy? any ideas?"

your glare moved from derek onto spencer, who licked his lips as he searched his big brain (which, if you had said that aloud, would have responded by telling you brain size has nothing to do with intelligence).

suddenly, his eyes widened, and he whispered something in derek's ear.

derek laughed when he heard it, his eyes crinkling in amusement. "what?" you squeaked, and derek swiped his tongue over his lips, "alright, mama, i dare you to go up to hotch and tell him this:" what he proceeded to say was unintelligible french in a horrible accent that left you squinting at him. "huh?" you asked, making derek roll his eyes and nudge spencer, "you say it."

with a small, smug smirk that made derek huff out a laugh, spencer repeated what he wanted you to say in perfect french.

"bonjour captain, voulez-vous coucher avec moi?" you repeated, and spencer nodded in approval. you had taken two french lessons in your younger years that you hadn't really paid attention to, which you regretted now.

"what exactly am i telling hotch?" you asked, eyes flitting over spencer and derek.

"sweetheart, i doubt hotch knows french, it doesn't really matter," derek said smoothly, and in a haste to get this over with and go on to the next round, you didn't think to push.

although you really, really should have.

your feelings for hotch were not a super well-kept secret. when penelope found out, she had let it slip to derek, who told emily and spencer. it wasn't a big deal (you had insisted), he was your superior who would never let it happen, and he wasn't attracted to you anyways.

"here he comes, y/n," emily told you, pointing to the door of his office, which, sure enough, was opening, hotch walking out to the coffee room.

"here i go, telling my unit chief to... go home?" you asked hopefully, only to be met with a snicker from emily and a no from spencer.

you stood and walked over to the break room, standing next to hotch, who was making coffee. you smiled at him, "bonjour captain! voulez-vous coucher avec moi?"

hotch stared at you for a second, his lips stretching into a small smile before he nodded, laughing quietly and scaring you (what the hell did you just tell him?), "oui," he responded, before taking his coffee and walking out.

you blinked in confusion, head tilting as you stared at him walk away.

you rushed to your desk, glaring at spencer. "what did i just tell him?" you asked, and emily tugged at you arm, "why? did he get mad? what did he say?"

"he said oui," you replied, looking for and failing to find comfort in the surprised faces of your teammates.

"he said yes?" jj asked, and you nodded, "yeah, why? what did i tell him?"

derek laughed, and emily raised an eyebrow. "you asked him if he wanted to sleep with you."

you gaped at her, looking to spencer for confirmation, which he gave you. "and he said yes..." you mumbled.

maybe you did have a chance.
