about: the avengers have convinced y/n peter parker likes her back

-

y/n stared at the brunette boy in front of her, her eyes slits as she observed the way he bit his lip nervously, the way he did with everyone else but her.

she inspected him, looking over all his features, and ignoring the way her stomach fluttered as she noticed his messy curls and deep brown eyes. she pushed past her unwanted feelings and continued to watch him, making out the obvious signs of his uneasiness. she looked over his face, practicing the things she'd spent so long learning from natasha.

she huffed when she saw his adam's apple bob in a gulp, shutting her textbook closed and angrily shoving the cap back on her marker.

"what is wrong with you?" she snapped, making peter's eyes widen, his head raising in surprise.

"uh- no- nothing, why?" he stammered, which just affirmed y/n's suspicion that he was hiding something from her.

she let out a short, quick breath of annoyance. "parker, i'm trained to be able to see these kind of things, what is wrong?"

peter looked down again, and y/n rolled her eyes, partially at him, and partially at the reaction her body had at seeing his cute quirks when he was nervous.

she glared at her friend in front of her, making him look back up, sheepishly, his teeth tugging on his lip again.

y/n forced her eyes away from his lips, her own teeth unconsciously imitating his actions.

"uh, ne- someone told me you..." his face contorted into one of internal struggle, but y/n stared at him.

"you know i like liz right?" he finally said, and y/n snorted, years of training to hide emotions and being undercover coming in handy.

"of course i do, idiot, you don't exactly hide it well," y/n grinned, but his face didn't change.

she punched his arm, "don't worry, you'll get the girl," she said, and his lips turned into a small smile, but y/n could tell it wasn't the end of his stress.

she turned back to her textbook, fake smile and enthusiasm quickly draining her energy.

she in fact did not know that peter parker liked liz, although she probably should've, with all her training.

she couldn't describe the pain ripping through her chest at his words, not being able to concentrate on the words on her textbook.

y/n internally rolled her eyes at herself, embarrassed at how pathetic she felt. how could one of the best assassins in the word, an avenger, be so affected by a stupid boy?

she bit her lip, and looked down at her book angrily, she could swear being shot hurt less than hearing his words.

y/n would know. she'd been shot plenty times before.

she didn't realize she had a frown on her face until peter pointed it out, which made her slap on a smile faster than he could blink.

"are you okay?"

"yeah, of course, i just hate history," y/n lied easily, but peter kept staring at her.

the girl got sick of his gaze easily, and she sighed, looking up at him tiredly.

"yes?" she asked.

"i don't like you." he stated, and y/n froze.

"i- i mean, i don't like you like.. like you like me. i'm sorry," peter said, and y/n gulped.

all her training immediately went into action as she smiled at him (she was really glad to be an avenger trained by natasha in these few moments).

"what do you mean?" she asked simply, and she almost cursed at herself, she didn't want to know the answer she already knew was going to come out of his mouth. she didn't want to listen to how he found out, and how sorry he was about something that wasn't his fault.

peter was opening his mouth when she caught natasha's eye, communicating with her through her own.

natasha, of course, caught on immediately, walking over quickly.

"i mean, ne-" peter was interrupted by y/n's saint.

"hey y/n, we need you over here," natasha called, and y/n nodded, giving peter a faux apologetic glance before she got up and walked out of peter's room and over to her best friend.

y/n walked away quickly, her eyes quickly filling as natasha shut peter's door.

"hey, y/n-" natasha walked after y/n, pulling her into a random room.

y/n didn't stop her, starting to uncharacteristically ramble, tears starting to slip from her eyes. "i already knew it. i don't know why i'm so upset, this is embarrassing as hell, i'm sorry, i-"

natasha cut her off, pulling the girl she considered her daughter to her chest, figuring out what happened before she told her.

"why does it hurt like this, nat? i- i'm better- i'm stronger than this-"

"it's okay for it to hurt, y/n," natasha said, and y/n sighed, leaning into her.

y/n loved the avengers. a lot. they gave her a home, taught her all she knew, loved her.

she loved the avengers, she really did, but at that moment, just that moment, she hated them.

she hated all of them for teasing her about peter, for telling her he liked her back, for giving her hope she would ever get what she wanted.
