A Unique Partnership

After school that day the three misfit friends went through the village on their way home. That's where they heard the news about the presents being stolen. It was on the cover of "The North Pole Times", the biggest newspaper in the North Pole. That's all any elf was talking about as kids were leaving school.

"You should be ashamed of yourself Greta Grinch," an elf scolded at her.
Greta looked at her, "I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about."
"Stealing hundreds of thousands of toys so close to Christmas," another elf spoke. "We should have known you'd follow in your fathers steps."
"Don't talk about my father like that! You don't know if it was me. For all you know it could have been one of your little elf friends. You have no proof or evidence," Greta spoke.
"Go back to your trash town where you belong and leave Christmas alone," shouted another elf.
At this point a whole crowd of elves started to form.
Heather started to get heated and that's never a good thing.
"Why you-" she started but was cut off my Eben. "You better watch your mouth. Just wait you'll see Greta had nothing to do with this."
"You know you all have some some real guts going around pointing fingers with no evidence. You all should be the ones ashamed of themselves," Heather spoke.
"Just leave no one likes you anyway. You've all done enough," another elf said.
"Come on guys. They aren't worth it," Greta grabbed the other two and lead them toward Misfit Town. They went to the old abandoned school. No one ever went in there so no one would bother them.

The school was the oldest building in the town. The most run down and ruined that's why the group liked it so much. No one ever went in there. It was common knowledge that the abandoned building was their hangout so no one bothered going over there. The building was three stories and had faded and peeled red paint. Almost every single window was shattered and the first set of doors as you walked in were broken. Luckily the second set were still fairly intact.
As you walk in you see a big front foyer. The floors were dirty. Dirt, leaves, and old papers littered the floors. There we're old wooden floor boards coming up out of the floor. There were also some holes in the floor so you had to be careful where you stepped. But for the three friends they had been in here enough to know this place like the back of their hand, so they weren't that cautious. Straight in through the foyer was the auditorium. That's where the group headed.

Eben shut the auditorium doors. "You know they have some nerve pointing fingers and accusing you with no evidence" he said.
"Well what am I supposed to do? Those stupid detective elf's will probably skew the evidence toward me anyway. Even if it is an elf they wouldn't take down one of their own. They'd just give them a warning probably," said Greta sitting on the edge of the auditorium stage.
Heather threw her bag into an auditorium seat and sat down, "Ugh it's so infuriating you did nothing wrong and now they want to make you look like the bad guy just because if your fathers past. It's ridiculous."
Greta sighed, "Well that's how things go unfortunately you make one lousy mistake and the whole world hates you. I wish things could be different. Thank you guys for sticking up for me and having my back," said Greta.
"We will always have your back G. No matter what," said Heather genuinely.
"You think your mother will do anything?" Eben asked leaning against the stage. Greta laughed.
"My mother? Stick up for me? Yeah right. She'd side with everyone else." She took a deep breath trying not to get upset. "She's to worried about the opinion of others. You guys are the only ones who know the truth. If she stuck up for me everyone would know and she would never want that to happen," Greta says.
Then a faint shout came from the foyer.
"Did you guys hear that?"
"Hear what?" Heather and Eben said at the same time.
"Never mind it was probably nothing."
"Watch it be someone from the main village coming to talk to you. WELL GUESS WHAT SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING!" Eben yelled.
"Must you be so loud?!" Heather asked while trying to fix her makeup.
Another faint knock and some whispers came from behind the auditorium door.
"Who is that? No one comes in here," Heather said clearly not happy.
"Don't worry ladies. I'll protect you," Eben said in a cocky tone.
He opened the door and was met with Nick and Benny.
"You have got to be kidding me. What are you two doing here? What do you want?" Eben spat.
"We just want to talk to Greta about-"
"I'm gonna stop you right there. You two are not going anywhere near her. Don't you think she's been through enough?"
"Eben who is it?" Greta asked.
"The Prince of Christmas and his personal assistant." "I'm technically not-"
"Yeah I don't care," Eben said cutting off Benny.
Heather walked over to the group of boys.
"What are you doing here? Don't you have cookies that need frosting or trees that need decorating?"
Benny started blushing, "Oh h-hi Heather y-you look r-really good today."
"Aw you're sweet. But it's never gonna happen," she said.
It's no secret that the boy had feelings for the Queen of Heat and maybe she liked him back. But she's gotten her heart broken one to many times to trust someone again.
"Eben's right. You guys aren't going near her. If you want to get to her you're going just going to have to go through us," said Heather changing the subject. Heather and Eben stood next to each other with their arms crossed. Showing that they weren't kidding.
Greta rolled her eyes, walked up to her friends, and pushed herself in the middle of them.
"Don't you boys have halls that need decking or something?" Asked Greta.
Nick laughed, "Not exactly. We were hoping we could talk to you about everything going on."
"Look Princy I'm not guilty. I didn't steal-"
"I know that Greta. We want you to work with us to prove you innocent. Can we talk to you in private?" She looked shocked. She then looked over at Eben and Heather. They looked at her with the same look she was giving them. She grabbed them and pulled them back into a little huddle.
"I'll tell you guys everything. Let me handle this," she whispered.
"Wait your gonna go with them? Greta this could be some trick or trap they can't be trusted," Eben said.
"I know that Eb just let me see what they want. These two couldn't hurt a fly I doubt if it is a trick it's anything that bad," she tried to reason.
"You better tell us everything. Don't leave out a single detail," said Heather.
"You know I won't," and with that Greta follows the two boys out the doors.

She led the two boys out to the hallway.
"You want to prove me innocent? What made you want to help me? Wouldn't it just be so much easier to blame me?"
Benny spoke up, "look we know you're innocent. No matter what your fathers past was you wouldn't do something like this. Our dads gave us the job of finding whoever did this and we want you to help us. To show everyone that they shouldn't be jumping to conclusions."
"Wait a minute you guys are doing this? What about those elves that handle this stuff?"
"They were poisoned. Whoever did this must have poisoned them," Nick said.
"Wow whoever did this really wasn't messing around," Greta said trying not to laugh.
"Yeah we really need your help. Please help us," Nick begged.
"Why should I trust you? Why should I trust that your not just gonna stab me in the back when I least expect it?"
"Do you really think we would go through all this trouble to come find you and make you my partner on this case if we were just gonna stab you in the back?" Nick asked.
"We aren't like that Greta," Benny added.

Greta was hesitant but she thought about it and finally she got an idea.
"Ok I'll help you. On one condition."
Nick nodded, "Of course Greta anything."
"You need to talk Mrs. Elfson and figure out some way for the Misfits and I to pass that Christmas Cheer class. We get perfect scores on all the tests and we participate and she still fails us. I have a feeling it's just because she doesn't like us. Anyway if we fail that class the headmaster will not be happy. I'm walking on thin ice with him as it is. So you two are gonna talk to her and figure out what the deal is. She won't talk to or try and help me and the others. But she will talk to her two favorite students."
Nick and Benny looked at each other nodding.
"Ok that should be simple enough. I'll talk to her first thing on Monday. Tomorrow we will be at the workshop looking in the room the toys were stolen from. You should come." Nick said.
"Is that really a good idea? Won't your dads freak out?"
"They have meetings in the village all day. We will sneak you through the back," Benny suggested.
"What about your new high end security that's got the workshop basically on lockdown?" Greta asked.
That's when Eben and Heather came bursting through the doors.
"Pulling pranks on security my specialty," Eben said.
"Have you two been eavesdropping the whole time?"
"Duh," said Heather. Greta laughed and then she started thinking.
"You know what this could work. We will met you guys at the half way point between Misfit Town and Santa's Village at 10. We will walk around the side of the village and go to the back end of the workshop," Greta started.
"Yeah Eben you'll distract the security in the side entrance by the Security room so Benny and Heather can get in and turn off the security cameras for a little bit," Nick continued
"I'm sorry I'm what? Nick I don't know how to shut those things down. I've never been in the security room before," Benny said nervously.
"I'm sure you can figure it out and if you can't I'll be there to help you. I did pretty decent in that one coding class," Heather said flirtatiously.
"O-oh o-ok," Benny stuttered.
"Great then Eben will come into the back distract those guards so Nick and I can get in the back. Hopefully by then the cameras will have been shut off. We will get in look around and try and get as much as we can as quick as we can," Greta finished.
"Wow we make a great team," Nick said towards Greta.
"Yeah this is quite the unique partnership we have going on," she responded. "But just note that you are walking on thin ice. If you give me one reason to stop working with you. I will and I mean it," she said seriously.
"Yes ma'am," responded Nick.
"Great well this was fun but you should really get going. You don't want to know what happens here when the sun fully sets," Greta said with a smirk.
"What does that mean?" Nick asked.
"We don't want to find out Nick let's go," Benny said.
The three laughed at the Benny's answer. The boys said farewell to the three misfits and left.

"Well that went better than expected," said Nick.
"Yeah we better get home and get some sleep. We got a big day ahead of us," said Benny.
The boys parted ways and headed toward their respective homes. They got home and went right to their rooms. They got ready for bed and went right to sleep.
