Graysons P.O.V

I stared up at the ceiling ever since I got into bed. My mind was traveling elsewhere. My girlfriend, Lynn, had her head on my chest as she stared into the distance as well.

"What do you think they're doing right now?" She asked. But I shrugged. How would I know? They're holding each other in their arms one last time, praying to God for a miracle to happen.

"He's probably holding her really tight.." I said. I knew that for a fact. This whole month all he did was keep her close to him. When she'd go to the bathroom he stood in the hall, waiting for her. When she was asleep, he made sure to get out of bed when Lilith would cry.

I felt Lynn nod her head, and the room became silent and stiff once again. The air was heavy. It felt like the sky was going to fall any second, right on your chest and knock the breath out of you.

"I love you Lynn." I breathed out. She took her hand and used her finger to trace circles on my stomach. It calmed me down, hearing her breathe and watching her move.

I felt selfish.

"I love you too Gray." She whispered. I let out a sigh. I could live my life with her. The love of my
life. We could have children, a big house, a big backyard. But I felt selfish just thinking about it.

The air fell once again. It was cold. I snakes my arm tighter around Lynn and pulled her closer to me, ready for the worse.

"Rest babe. Just close your eyes for a little. Please." Lynn begged. I sighed, but I knew she was right. The whole month was the same thing at night.

We stayed up through the night, taking turns. We didn't want her to be alone. He never left her side. He never fell asleep. We never fell asleep.

He never let a loud cry escape Lilith. He'd quickly run out of bed and towards her crib, picking her up and running back to bed, and checked her pulse.

He'd sigh of relief, and cradle Lilith and her back to sleep. But he never fell asleep. He never let himself close his eyes just for a second.

Sometimes, me and Lynn would sleep in their room, letting him rest a little bit. He'd close his eyes for a few hours, but would occasionally wake up to check her pulse.

But a week into a month, they put her onto a machine that she could take anywhere. It checked her pulse and if it was slow or had gone out, it would beep, loud.

We feared it.

I let myself slowly close my eyes, and feel the air push down farther onto my chest. But when I closed my eyes, it went away.

I was safe. I was free. I had no worries. She was okay. He was okay. Lilith was okay. Lynn was okay.

Until, I heard baby cries.

I shot my eyes open and looked down at Lynn who had her head up in alert, and await for it too stop crying.

But then, we heard water run and sobs.

We both jumped out of bed and ran to their room. My heart beat was going crazy and when I opened their door, Lilith laid in her crib as her parents bed was empty.

I heard the shower and turned to Lynn. "Take care of Lilith, I'll go see what was going on." I said. She nodded her head and quickly ran up to her crib, picking her up and carrying her, trying to get her to calm down.

I ran into the bathroom. He was sitting on the shower floor with her in his arms. He was sobbing. They were being drenched while the water hit their bodies. But she was sleeping.
