You tossed and turned in your bed, unable to sleep. Memories of your past ran through your mind, finding their way into your dreams, you couldn't take it anymore. You sat up in bed, then bent forward and held your face in your hands. you sighed. "damn it." you cursed under your breath. You swung your legs over the side of the bed and put on your slippers before grabbing your robe and putting it on. You lit a candle and walked down the long hallways of Dorians house toward the library. When you reached the library you set your candle down on the coffee table and looked up at the clock, it read 1:00 p.m. "God it's early, maybe if I read for a while I will fall asleep." you whispered to yourself. You reached for a book on the shelf, turning it over to look at the cover. "Dracula, by Bram Stoker." you whispered. You thought it would be interesting. You sat down in one of the chairs and began to read. You told yourself that you would only be a few minutes but it ended up being an hour.
You couldn't put the book down as it really fascinated you, and it mentioned the last name Harker. You wondered if any of this related to Mina, one of the members of the league. You kept reading until you heard footsteps. You gasped and looked up to see someone coming down the stairs. "Miss Y/N, what are you doing up at this hour?" you heard a voice say. Another candle was lit, the glow revealing Dorian who was standing before you. "Oh it's just you Dorian." you said, sighing in relief. "I'm sorry my dear did I frighten you?" he asked. "Just a little." you said. "My apologies my dear, I did not mean to frighten you. I only heard footsteps from the hall and noticed it was you. I thought I would see if you're alright." he said. "You're very kind.... and...it's just...I couldn't sleep. So I came to the library, I thought I would read for a while to see if I could fall asleep. It turns out I still can't" you said. Dorian nodded. "I see, might I ask what kept you awake." he said as he sat in one of the chairs across from you. You hesitated at first but then you finally had the courage to tell him, the look in his dark brown eyes told you that he was listening. "Alright, it was a vision of my past. A memory of my mother, it still haunts me to this day and the reason I cannot sleep most nights." you said. "I don't wish to speak of it right now, I just want to get some sleep."
"I understand my dear, sometimes a vision can keep one awake." he said standing up and offering his hand to you. "Come, let me bring you to your room." he said. You took his hand and let him help you up. He was being very kind to you, it was surprising to say the least. When he was with the league he was always his sarcastic self but the way he acted towards you was different, and you couldn't understand why. He brought you to your room and opened up the covers. You climbed into bed and then put the covers over you. "Leave it open my dear, I'm going to join you." he said. He took off his robe which left him in only in a pair of gray pants. No shirt or shoes. You blushed a bit. He climbed into bed with you and held you in his arms. "You don't have to do this.." you said. "Nonsense, you are having trouble sleeping my dear. I am willing to stay as long as it takes until you have fallen asleep." he said. "Can you stay the rest of the night?" you asked. He smiled. "Of course, now get some sleep. I will be right here." he said. You relaxed in his arms. those strong, gentle arms that kept you safe. "Thank you Dorian, you're very kind." you said with a yawn. "you're welcome my dear." he said. He was about to say something when he noticed you had fallen asleep. He smiled at your sleeping form. "Goodnight Miss Y/N." he said. He kissed your forehead before closing his eyes, staying by your side as you slept through the night.
As he slept he couldn't help but think to himself, that he felt something when he was with you. Something he couldn't put his finger on.
