Barry pov
"Just calm down Barr" Future Caitlin ordered as we made our way to the balcony."I get that Kaden is her son; but she's being irrational; she's not thinking with her head straight" I growled in frustration.
"Give her a break. He is our kid too" Future Caitlin said defensively.
"This is exactly why you two can't be making the decisions around here" I reasoned meeting my gaze with hers.
"Like hell we aren't" She exclaimed angrily taking a threatening step towards me.
"You listen to me very carefully Barry Allen. That kid in there may not be yours, but he is MINE and I will not let anything happen to my baby. It is his life on the line and I will make all the decisions. You have no right to say what is and isn't going to happen. His fate is not in your hands. If this was the other way around and it was Nora's life, you would trust no one but yourself to assure her safety. Here is where I draw my boundaries with you Allen. No one comes before my children not even you" Future Caitlin said fiercely not leaving room for argument.
"You may not feel it now; but you do love Kaden as if he were your own son. So please get your head out of your ass and help me get our kid back" She spoke softly after a long disturbing silence.
"You're right. I'm sorry I shouldn't have done what I did. It wasn't my place. We will do things your way" I smiled sadly.
"Speaking of Nora. She should be here any minute with her father-or future you" She clarified as we made our way back inside. We felt a gush of wind as two blurs entered the loft.
"Cait" Nora smiled hugging her briefly before eyeing me.
"Hi dad" She smiled softly wrapping her arms around me.
"Hi baby" I said softly. To think just a few days ago I had mini Nora sitting on my lap.
"What?" She laughed as I just stared ay her.
"In my world, you're just about 2 years old, and talk none stop" I smile nostalgically.
"Nothing has changed then" Future me chuckled greeting me with a small nod.
"I do not talk too much" Nora challenged looking around her with no one making eye contact with her. She turned her body towards her Cait silently asking her to take sides with her.
"I'm sorry Nor but you kinda do" She smiled apologetically before laughing.
"Wow that support here in uncanny" Nora smiled shaking her head.
"Blame mom. She's a reporter and talks her own ears off" Nora claimed and we all nodded in agreement.
"You're right" I laughed.
"Where is my brother anyways?" Nora asked focusing on more important matters.
"In the guest room with your siblings" Cait said softly walking out of the room herself.
"Caitlin hi! I didn't know you were here too" Nora smiled greeting her before excusing herself to go check on her brother.
"Hi Barr" Caitlin smiled at him in acknowledgement and he smiled back.
"Hi" He replied awkwardly but smiling nonetheless. All three of them shifted uncomfortably sharing knowing glances.
"What's going on?" I asked noticing the change in mood.
"Nothing" the three of them quickly dismissed while I narrowed my eyes at Cait questioning her odd behavior.
"Yeah right. I may not be Sherlock Holmes but I am not dumb" I claimed making future me roll his eyes.
"I'll beg to differ" He murmured under his breath making me raise my eyebrows.
"Cait can I talk to you outside for a minute?" I asked dragging her along with me as she whispered a soft 'yes'.
"What am I missing?" I asked confused at what had happened a couple seconds ago.
"Nothing important" She shrugged biting her lips involuntarily.
"Do I have to point out you're lying?" I asked eyeing her in determination.
"Okay I'll tell you. Something happened before Nora, Dawn and Barr came back to the their timeline" She explained and I nodded my head for her to continue.
"You know that night at Joe's birthday?" She asked and I nodded slowly trying to recall moments of that night.
"The night Iris found out Dawn was your daughter" I recalled softly.
"Yeah. Well that night you-future you- kissed me" She explained dropping her gaze to the floor. I stood there like an idiot with my mouth agape.
"I-I what?!" I whispered-yelled.
"He kissed me and tricked me into thinking that it was actually you you" She adds and I stuttered to come up with a coherent sentence.
"Why?" is all I could come up with.
"I guess he was trying to fix the timeline or make sure things didn't change too much in his timeline or-I don't-I don't know" She admitted shrugging her shoulders before meeting my gaze boldly.
"It happened a long time ago and I forgave him already so please don't make a big deal out of this" She begged with her eyes.
"I kissed you-well he kissed you and you didn't tell me" I said not letting go of the subject just yet.
"There was nothing to say Barry. A lot of things were happening. Iris was pregnant and you were practically avoiding my existence so I figured just to forget about it altogether. Not long after I left New York and well you know where we are now" She reasoned making me nod my head in understanding.
"Is this why you left New York?" I asked softly.
"maybe it dispersed any doubts I had about leaving. But it wasn't the reason for me leaving, it just confirmed that I had to. I needed to leave my old life behind. I had to figure out who I was without team Flash. I realized my identity merged too closely with the Flash; I had lost myself because I was too focus trying to make sure you never did. I needed to be my own moral compass." She smiled sadly and my heart tugged at her pain.
"I never realized you were in so much pain" I whispered sadly.
"Neither did" She smiled placing a hand on my shoulder.
"It's no one's fault. Trust me Barry, leaving was the hardest thing, but it was the best decision I could of ever made" She smiled and I nodded in understanding with a sad frown at her words.
"I just want you to be happy" I admitted with a smile.
"I guess fate just had a funny way of bringing us together" She smiled as she glanced at something behind me.
I imitated her movements turning my head around glancing at the family in the living room. In the sofa sat Nora, Dawn, Ron and Kaden all with big smiles on their faces while future Caitlin and future me lovingly wrapped our arms around them.
"I guess it did" I smiled back smiling at the family in front of me.
A cute family chapter. Hope you enjoyed the chapter. I'm trying to solidify any loose ends in the story; much necessary emotional closures etc.
Comment down below any theories or suggestions on what a third book might look like. Any ideas?
*I do not know if I'm making a third book yet. But I will let you know if I decide to make this into a trilogy*
With love,
Bree ♥️♥️♥️
