The Night It All Went Wrong

Chapter 19: Newborn

As I woke up I see that I am in the hospital. I look around and see Walter and the children. "How are you?" Walter asks.

"I'm fine, what happened?"

"The doctor said you just go a little overheated and that you can go home whenever your ready, no charges."

"Ok, I'm so sorry."

"It's alright, hold on I'm getting a call" he answered his phone and started talk. Ask the conversation free he look worried. "The baby's coming!"

"Wait what?"

"My wife is in labor! I have to go I'll text so you can meet us there." He grabbed the children and ran out.

I checked out of the doctors and went to the place Walter texted me to go.

"Name?" The lady at the desk said.

"Lacy."

"Are you a family member or friend?"

"Friend, he wanted me here."

"Hold on." She called someone and talked for a second."Ok you can go, it will be room 539." I walked closer to the room as I heard crying. Not the crying of a grown up or a kid but a baby and then I knew. Walter held the baby girl in his hands and looked up and saw me.

"Isn't she beautiful?" He asked and I nodded back yes. She really was with her big round eyes and her head of thick brown hair. He handed me to her and my heart sank. She felt like she weighed one pound or less, so fragile like a vase about to fall off of a table. She tried to blink her little eyes and suck on her fingers. She was so perfect to me. I never wanted to let her go. I looked back up at Walter and he looked sad.

"What's wrong?"

"It's just the baby came early and I wanted to take my wife and children on one special trip before well you know." And I did, his wife was going to die soon.

"I know, I can watch the baby.."

"No I wouldn't want you to stress."

"I won't it will be fine, you need this trip."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Thank you so much." I honestly can't believe he is letting me watch his newborn baby but on the other hand I can blame him. This is defiantly going to be a challenge.
