The Masquerade

Raven's POV

I saw both my sister and the prince's faces. They were both confused and angry at the same time.

"What do you mean?!" Prince Claude demanded an explanation as he grabbed me by the shoulders.

"Stop, he just woke up!" my sister said to the prince as she shoved his hands away from me. He calmed down and  began to ask me again.

"What did you dream about?" 

I told them about the prince killing both of them in ambush with a mysterious lady.

"The empress arranged another engagement for the prince. Adelaide Lidius the second lady of the Lidius Duchy. She is influential and a social butterfly of the noble circle, rumors has it" Claude said

"I also met her once at a tea party hosted by our mutual friend" Rebecca said

"What does she look like?" I asked

"She had a strong presence, so I remember her clearly. She had dark brown hair and rose colored eyes" Rebecca added

So, she really was the one I saw in the dream. Somehow, I feel anxious about this.

"Is she that one that you saw?" Claude asked and I nodded

We already know who will kill them, but we don't know what day it will happen and where it will happen. I only saw a part of it, so I don't fully know the situation.

"Can't you remember particular details? Something that stood out?" Claude aske me again

I thought hard and I suddenly remember something. 

"Both of the were wearing masks for a masquerade. There were also fireworks, I saw them outside the window" I hurriedly explained the situation and Claude looked like as if he saw a ghost

"What? You know something" Rebecca asked as he looked at Claude

"There will be a masquerade tomorrow evening. The Emperor will announce Edward's engagement with the Lidius lady" Claude said with nervousness

"So, they plan to kill us tomorrow and use the event as a distraction" I said

"Listen, we already know what they'll do. All we need to do is to destroy their plan" Rebecca said

"And how do we do that?" I asked her

Rebecca's POV

We came to the ball as planned and Claude came as my escort. Raven came alone and distanced himself from his friends. He came earlier than us to observe the situation. We also wore masks that matched outfits.

As soon as we opened the door and all of the people were already conversing with people they know. Our identities are not announced, because the masquerade is meant to be mysterious.

We could hear murmurs and people talking about the recent events.

"Hey, I heard that the Rosevelt's lady will be attending the party

"Is she not ashamed to be engaged again too soon"

"She's engaged with the first prince!"

"To think that she is attending the second prince's engagement party"

"I think she did not attend and took the opportunity"

"This is a masquerade. It is not like we will know if she  actually attends or not"

This was the conversation of the ladies who were near us. I would want to confront them, but that would totally ruin the whole plan.

We saw Raven who was signaling us to follow him.  We sneaked towards the hallways and observed if none was around us. Fortunately, there were none.

"So, what do we do know?" Claude asked

"Before that, I'll share my observations to you all" Raven said

Raven's POV

"I overheard some of the prince's trusted men while I was sneaking out from the party. I went outside and spied on them" I said to the two of them 

"They planned that a maid dressed as a noble will accidentally spill wine on your dress, so you will have to go to the lounge and change into another outfit" I told them what I heard from the second prince's men

"By accidentally, you actually mean purposely" Rebecca said with a face that showed how annoyed she was

To think they would go this far just to secure the throne.

"From that moment onwards, the prince and his fiancé will enter the room to kill you both" I  said with a face full of seriousness

"What should we do know? The second prince's men are trained assassins. He always boasted about them when we were still engaged" Rebecca asked with cold sweat visibly appearing from her face due to nervousness

"Why don't we just follow their plan" Claude said with a smirk

"What do you mean?" I asked

"We let them think that we fell into their trap, but in reality, they are the ones that have fallen onto the palm of our hands" he added

"Let's do what they want, but I'll give them a surprise" the prince smiled as he planned something big
