It was a brisk September morning. The sun wasn't even awake yet, though you could see it shily making his appearance. I hate my school schedule. Classes start at 7:30 in the freaking morning and I'm one hour away by public transport. You can't drive cause at this hour traffic is hell. So I wake up at about 6 in the morning. I drink a coffee if I have time to make me some or I just brush my teeth and go for school. Most of the time I barely make it in time.
This year, the school has decided to put on Wednesdays PE first. Exactly what I needed. Physical activity when I haven't even had time to put food in my belly. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy our PE classes. We have a big gym with enough room for a volleyball court and plenty o space still left around it for other activities. But don't make me exercise so early in the day... please.
Anyways, I made it almost in time to the locker rooms. It's this tiny room, with not enough benches and hangers for your bags and jackets, where we're just supposed to change into our sporting gear. I put on my short sweat pants and my white t-shirt, put on any other shirt colour and you might as well stay at home. It's the only rule our PE teacher has, otherwise, she's the friendliest of the teachers. From what I've heard she even own part of a cool pub in the ol' city centre.
Since it's the first week she goes easy on us, but still benches everybody who's not in proper clothes or in white t-shirts...told you not to wear any other colours.
-Alright everybody! Line up!
Underwood was making fun of Holly. She's the class representative, a little on the plus size, but she's an awesome person. She's very shy and kind, though easily swayed and persuaded. I would even go on to say she can be pretty naive, but hey, everybody has its own issues.
Right, getting back to Underwood. I think he just jump scared her. She gets scared super easily, we all tease her on this one.-Underwood! Leave the poor girl alone! And since you've got so much energy why don't you lead the warm-up?! Come on everybody 2 laps and then warm up gymnastics. I want it done in 7 minutes!
*5 seconds silence and stillness
-What're you waiting for?! GO!
Oh, God! She said she was taking it easy on us... I guess we should get on running. Now, this is the part that I hate the most, cause Caleb and Adrian would come near me and would either tease me or even butt slap me. Like they have nothing better to do than just make me feel utterly uncomfortable.
-Hey Diaz! ...and but smacked...
-I hate you, Caleb! We finish warming up and then apparently we're playing volleyball. Great! I kind of like it. I'm not half bad when I can focus, and that usually only happens when you know who decides to skip class. Most of the time I play bad happens with him on the court. I sigh in disbelief when he and Aya are chosen, team captains. They're gonna choose 5, each, and then the rest will just play something else. Aya goes first and chooses Emma... obviously. Adrian chooses Caleb. Fast forward a couple of minutes and there's 1 place left in Adrian's team and one in Aya's team. I still haven't been chosen. To be fair though the best of the best are present today. I know I'm going to be chosen I just hope it's not his team...
Want to know why? You have to understand how volleyball works. You have 6 members in each team. One is the server. You win the point to win the next serve as a team. When you win a point, you rotate. If you win multiple points in a row you don't rotate anymore. Now, strategy-wise, it's advised to have your tallest people at the net and on the extremities and your shortest in the back and centred. Based on this I always end up either behind him or in front of him. Cause you know.. we rotate.
-Aiden!
I'm snapped from my thoughts as I hear my name. I hesitate for a second, but I slowly make my way to my team. Have I told you how much the universe likes to mess with me? Then I don't need to tell you in what team I am. Ok, ok. I'm on Adrian's team. There's Caleb, Nathan, Emma and Betty. Apart from Emma and Caleb, it's a good team. Don't get me wrong Caleb is athletic but he just always messes up. He can't take it seriously for one second. And Emma can't serve if her life depended on it. But its also the only thing she sometimes manages to do. We get the service on the coin flip and Betty is assigned the first serve. She is a former volleyball player so she knows how to serve maybe the best after Ethan. The only difference is that Ethan can serve from the above head and with extreme power, whilst the rest of us peasant serve from the hip. I for one just don't have the height to do it like Ethan.
