New Year's Eve. Apart from my birthday, this is the only other day when my world stops to celebrate. Might sound selfish. I know. But my birthday, though I couldn't afford to celebrate in a big way most of my life, still means the world to me. I ain't got a lot of friends, so you bet I am expecting them, my world, to stop and celebrate me. And just on this very principle, on New Year's Eve, my world, meaning my friends, have to stop and pause our lives, and our feuds, and celebrate. We're celebrating life, ourselves and most of all each other. Every year is full of challenges and as you age you only find it harder and harder to power through each one of this fucked up 12 months. Crazy! But we do power through. We do stand tall at the end of the year. It doesn't matter if you're actually just hanging on a thread for dear life. On New Year's Eve, you stand tall. And party! It doesn't have to be clubbing nor anything big. As long as you celebrate yourself and your friends; whoever was there for you, that is all that matters.
And that is exactly what me and these people that feel more like family now than just friends plan on doing tonight. We all got our shit. But we put it aside for just one night. One epic fucking night.
Take me for example. I have almost died this year. Maya is in a wheelchair. Emma's parents are getting a divorce. Adrian is also going through a rough patch with his family. And the rest... well I don't even know. We're usually pretty careful not to let our personal lives slip too much. I guess we all fear being judged and labelled.
There are also traditions that push this seemingly happy agenda on New Year's Eve. Wear something red. Have money in your pockets. Dress well. Don't you dare pass to the new year in your pyjamas. Don't argue with people on this day and do your best to make amends to the people you know you've hurt the past year. It's bad luck to pass to the new year holding grudges or being sad.I wasn't going for a too fancy look. The party was going to be a small apartment party. So comfortable jeans and a nice red polo shirt will do just fine. And you know it I got my hair on flick. I shower and dress. I got this amazing perfume from Armani that I've fallen in love with. I'm no expert so I don't know how to describe it's scent, but it's amazing. If it helps, Shawn Mendes is advertising it if I'm not mistaken. And he's so hot and such an amazing artist. It's sad he's not gay but hey, watching is free.
I kiss my mom and my sister and wish all a happy new year as I leave to pick up Emma. I already expected to spend an awful lot of time at her place. She just doesn't possess any words related to being punctual in her vocabulary. If there is one human on this planet who is one on one Gloria Prichett it's her. Oh, you must know Gloria! What? You don't watch Modern Family? The amazing Sofia Vergara plays her. Do come out the cave and watch it!
- Come in. says Emma as I knock on her door.
She had her hair in a towel and it seems she just put on some clothes. Must've gotten out of the shower just a couple of minutes ago.
-You're nowhere near ready! We're going to be so late are we? I say sarcastically.
-Pff. You know me. I won't be that long I promise. You can lay on the bed while I get my hair and make-up ready. Oh, and you should know that Anja's here too. She's in the kitchen.
-Oh, I'll go say hi then!I make my way through Emma's apartment as I look for the kitchen. I may have been a couple of times here but I've never been to the kitchen. Oh, there it is. This place is so big for an apartment! They have a balcony to the kitchen?
-Anja?
-Outside!
-Hey! How are you? You look amazing! Did the little crazy monster help you with the makeup?
-Yeah! she says giggling. She taps a chair next to her.
-Sit.
-This place is so pretty. So quiet and pretty! I say in a low husky voice. I can't wait for the next year! Oh and I almost forgot we're going to the mountains in a couple of days! Oh my god this is going to be an amazing year!
Anya giggles as she says:
-Chill bruh. You always get excited about everything too quick.
-Well, I'm sorry you perfectly balanced cold-blooded robot! I just am an optimistic person.
