Sage's POV
"Sage! Sage! Come on we're almost there!" Opening my eyes again the brightness of the sunlight makes me wince, although it really shouldn't be that way. The sun is setting and due to the thickness of the trees there's barely any remaining sunlight coming through. Nonetheless I close my eyes again but that comes with multiple people aggressively yelling at me once again to keep them open. Making me mad. Going to yell back the tensing of my stomach makes me cry out in pain instead, the thought of yelling quickly disappearing due to how confused I am. Looking down to see what's causing me so much pain all I see is blood covering my clothes with a huge gash running up my side just below my ribs. Turning around again they push me to lay back down so I don't hurt myself and that's when my surroundings start to come into a hazy focus again. I'm on some type of makeshift stretcher being held between two carefully directed horses, one ridden by Indra and Lexa with the other ridden by her guards. "You're doing great. Just another minute okay?" Looking at the person talking their worried look is buried under the guise of calmness but it's not working. I can still see her emotions perfectly clear. Never in my life would I have thought I'd ever see Indra so concerned or nervous for my well being. But before I could joke about it I passed out.
"Why are we training in the woods when Azgeda is walking around looking for trouble? Wouldn't be staying in the tower be better?" My words fall on deaf ears because Indra and Lexa insisted on more training in unpredictable and unknown conditions. They have the upper hand in these woods while I'm still learning them, which is why training here is important, especially with a rebel army close by. They also want to show them that my training has been improving greatly since the mountain, they want it to be known going after the commander won't be easy with me close by. Telling me to find a hiding spot they give me a minute or two to disappear before they come looking for me so I can ambush them. What they're looking for is a clean attack, one that they both don't see coming and takes them by surprise. Which would be perfect. Such an attack is almost impossible to pull off on them which is why this is important to train over. They want me to be as good and skilled as they are. Having those skills will give me more responsibilities as a second and more respect among her people. Enough to let me join them. Although she called me one of their own it was met with heavy resistance when she wasn't around and she wants to put an end to that once and for all.
Running through the woods I find a tree that's not easy to climb but one that hides my position, it's also a lot closer to their location, something that they wouldn't expect. They know me as patient and thorough, so this wouldn't by typical of me at all. After climbing up their search for me begins and soon enough they quietly walk past my hiding spot without even sensing that I was there. A small win. But instead of jumping down now I have to wait. They're both still on high alert and will be back soon due to them knowing how far is too far for a minute head start. By then they'll both be slightly annoyed. Getting comfortable I keep a close eye on them while they expertly move through the trees with a perfectly practiced silence. But I watched them too closely and didn't notice the warrior creeping down from right above me until it was entirely too late. Stabbing me in the hip and dragging up they stop at my tibs before my screaming even began, but even then they stopped due to my friends being close by. Jumping down they try to run away but are caught by the warriors assigned to watch over us and instead of capturing him, they kill him. Afterwards one of the warriors climbs the tree to get me down while the other keeps watch while he listens to Indra and Lexa running back towards us. Once they both arrive they build a stretcher and load me onto it while racing towards Arkadia, the only place they can go to heal such a horrible and messy injury. My entire side being cut clean open.
"We have to get there fast! She's losing a lot of blood and it's too hard to keep pressure on the wound!" Their yelling quickly starts to fade away due to the loss of blood and my vision begins to tunnel minutes after being transported towards the small village. The entire trip is marked with passing out, being slapped awake, fighting to stay awake, and then passing out yet again for a longer period of time. Each and every time I wake up the remaining sunlight burns my eyes, their talking is more muffled than before, and my vision is more blurred. It's a miracle that I keep waking up but Indra is seemingly having a great time getting her revenge on me, slapping me harder and harder every time. It wasn't until the last time I passed out that the slapping failed to work but by then they got to the gates where they met with two unrecognizable voices. There instead of taking me inside they set me on the ground and started operating on me there. The pain mixed with blood loss making it impossible to stay awake much longer and with the safety of being in a doctors hands they let me do so. The last words I hear are someone yelling that I desperately need a blood transfusion and a familiar voice that's close by offer to do so. Which starts an argument for some unknown reason due to me not being able to hear it, although it sounded heated.
———————————————————————————
Hours later instead of waking up in Arkadia where I expected to wake up after the operation I had the familiar feeling of animal furs and smell of candles filled my senses. But something still felt very wrong. Not about me physically in this very moment, but the energy that surrounds me, it's a weird feeling. It's obvious that I'm here because Lexa wanted to be able to keep a close eye on me without the constant visits between Arkadia and the capital. Then there's also the fact that Octavia wasn't brought back with us when it all happened and she'd want to take care of me too. Their protectiveness over me being the one thing that they have in common and something that they'll both happily agree on working together. But even though the commander is protective over me there has to be a reason why that I'm here instead of back with my people. Something other than her needing to stay safe and my awaiting and clueless girlfriend who was filled in on my condition later than she liked. Wanting to find answers as soon as possible my first instinct was to get up from bed. But that became difficult when my movement revealed the stitches hidden beneath my clothes, the pain mixed with them snagging on my shirt making me stop while cringing, the feeling was disgusting. The pain also made me slightly scream out, waking up the person soundly sleeping right next to me that I failed to notice moments ago. Sitting up straight, slightly startled, they carefully push me down by my shoulders before getting up and opening the curtains, illuminating the once very dark room. Afterwards they walk back towards the bed groggily and away from the bright sunlight to allow me to finally see who was laying there, Lexa. Then instead of climbing back into bed they awkwardly linger towards the foot of the bed, not knowing if they'll hurt me now that I'm fully awake and can move. Patting the bed they sit there and instead of looking at me directly they avoid all eye contact and instead look at our conjoined hands with a blank expression. That only confirming my suspicions. Something happened when I was asleep and they have no idea how to tell me. Either because they're emotionally not equipped to do so or it's a delicate situation."What's going on? And don't fuck around with me." At first it was my tone of voice that scared her. It was commanding, cold, and completely void of emotion. Nothing she's heard from me before, or at least that perfectly and close to her own commanding tone. But that only shocked her into silence which never happens to her and only makes me more mad, she's the perfect person to tell you bad news because of how easily she can control her emotions. But for some reason I'm surprising her more than expected. So with my anger now brewing I try to do something stupid, sitting up although it's even more painful. That however makes Lexa snap out of her daze and sit me back down but more forcefully this time along with holding me down until I stopped fighting her. Sadly however that doesn't happen and she has to give me the news while we struggle against one another, hoping that will shock me into obedience. "You have Nightblood now!" Instantly we stop struggling against one another and my eyes widen. So she was the one who offered to give me blood. Which explains why a heated argument broke out. But we were at Arkadia. There were other options available instead of having her give me a transfusion. But that might be part of the bad news. "They didn't have time to go find you a donor. You lost too much blood already and there wasn't many other options." So basically I almost died that day. I almost died and now I wake up and am considered special for my blood even though it was given to me purposefully. Which means this has to be a secret or her people will ask me to be killed, banished, and maybe worse. Continuing once the shock wore off she explains what this means and what will have to happen from now on. How careful we both have to be at all times. "No one can know about this. Absolutely no one. Clarke and Octavia cannot know about this either. Only Abby, Indra, and those two guards will know." Nodding my head tiredly she checks my stitches and sees that they're slightly bleeding, getting the bandages and wrapping up my side before leaving the room for me to sleep. "Can Octavia come in?" With a nod she rubs my arm and walks out of the room and not even seconds later they open again. Too tired to open my eyes the familiar safe and warm feeling of my girlfriends arms around me fills my tired senses and allow me to fall back asleep.
