Sage's POV

Once everyone cleared out and was out of sight I quickly grabbed Clarke's hand and started dragging her towards the mines. "Follow me. I have a plan but if we don't get there soon it might not work," I say quietly just in case one of Emmerson's men came outside to keep an eye on the retreating army. Right away my new and sudden change of pace catches the blonde off guard, she didn't expect me to have a plan already. At first she even fights against my grip because after what just happened between her and Lexa she doesn't fully trust me. Which is hypocritical of her because after the weeks of training and planning she really thinks that I don't miss my friends as much as she does? That I've been getting my ass thrown to the ground day in and day out in training for nothing? Times like these remind me of how quickly she can just throw all logic out of the window, especially when she really wants to make someone look bad. "I hope you understand that my opinion wouldn't have stopped her from taking the deal," I say bitterly since she refuses to look at me. Although what the commander told her was heartless it's still the truth and no one can deny that. There's no doubt in anyone's mind that if Clarke was given the deal that she would've taken it too. She just hates that she was betrayed by someone she has feelings for. Whether the deal was selfish or not it's what we have to live with and now we need to take matters into our own hands. We still have the capability of getting inside and we're going to take it so we can get our people back one way or another. Let's just hope our luck hasn't run out yet and we don't get caught first. While I'm taking careful steps through the woods trying to avoid anything that makes a noise Clarke is doing the opposite. Every step she takes is loud and heavy, and with how close we are to the mountain, her loudness is extremely dangerous. "Do you want to save our people or do you want to get us both killed? Stop acting like I'm the enemy because you know there was nothing I could've done." My anger has finally boiled over and I'm slowly getting closer towards the point of no return. Where my anger will become uncontrollable and where even Octavia struggles to calm me down. If it isn't evident in my voice then she can feel it through my hardening grip on her hand that's still within my grasp. The next steps she takes are quiet and calculated which takes all the stress of getting her to the mines safely off of my shoulders. Especially when we reached the mouth of the twisting and turning mine system that I'm going to have to navigate without a map. I've also only seen the map once when we planned our scouting mission so hopefully, somehow, I memorized it then.

"Clarke stop running they could hear us," I whisper yelled after the girl who suddenly had a random surge of energy. The closer we get to the door the more her footsteps echo off of the stone walls around us, making me cringe with every step she takes. For a while I had her under control but when we reached the familiar passageway she immediately took off running. Once she rounds the corner the sound of her footsteps suddenly stop and they're replaced by hushed talking. Someone's up there with her, but she doesn't sound scared, instead she sounds relieved to see whoever it is. With that in mind I also start running down the rest of the path and accidentally run into someone, and knock us both down onto the ground. With a groan we both fall right onto the railroad tracks but the moment our eyes land on each other all of the pain goes away. "You're here," we both say while pulling each other into a bone crushing hug, not caring that the blonde is awkwardly standing above us. When we pull away from each other slightly her smile fades while looking at the blood splattered all over my face. "Wait what happened are you okay," she asks quickly while pulling me closer to see if any of it was mine. Particularly from scratches on my face hidden by the thick layer of dried blood or even the warrior paint. Quickly taking her hands in mine I calm her down so she doesn't begin to work herself up even more than she probably already is. Not seeing her brother and the retreat probably making her angry and nervous already. But our moment of distraction allows Clarke to walk over to the door and start banging on it, making us immediately jump to our feet. We both push her away from the door before she gets us caught and then killed, our eyes widened in fear over how desperate she seems to be. She's not at all thinking things through which means our lives are once again expendable. Once we have her far enough from the door Octavia starts questioning the blonde, asking what happened and where Lincoln is. She knows he'd never follow or accept and plan like this and once it's revealed he was forcibly taken away her anger somewhat dissipates. But for some reason her mentioning Lincoln sets Clarke off and she pulls a gun out of her waistband and aims it at the lock on the door. Before she could pull the trigger Octavia pushed her arm down and I took the gun away, our quick actions creating an extremely awkward and tense silence to fall between us. Now we fully understand what we're working with and it's starting to scare us. We were right to say she wasn't properly thinking things through earlier because whatever plans she's making up in her head are becoming increasingly reckless and desperate. It's the final straw for us both because we always end up with the most dangerous tasks that somehow go wrong every single time. "What the fuck are you doing?" Octavia points at the gun in my hand while Clarke tries to think of how to explain this to us but she fails, only saying she's trying to get through the door. But that's exactly what Octavia has been trying to do ever since Lexa called for the retreat. Although her methods haven't worked either at least none of them have purposefully attracted the enemies attention yet. So yet again when Clarke's plan is mutually destructive and dangerous her anger has also finally boiled over along with mine.

"And that's your plan? Bellamy is counting on you! Everyone is always counting on you!" Now a full fledged argument is breaking out between them leaving me to keep an eye out on the door just in case their yelling gets someone's attention from inside. But I can't help but still listen to all the points Octavia is making. She's right that Clarke has somehow become the unofficial leader of our people all because no one else wanted to be in the beginning. Then when the grounders came along we pushed her to the forefront and they accepted her as our leader as well. Time and time again we didn't think things through and it led us to having a leader that only bases her actions off of her emotions, and look where that led us. She trusted Lexa because of her feelings for her which then allowed a bomb to be dropped onto Tondc without warning the people. She might be doing the best she can, but it's still not good enough for us to stand by and silently obey everything she says. Before they could keep on yelling the sound of someone opening the door interrupts them. Holding up the gun and Octavia drawing her sword again our defensive efforts become useless when the person who walks out of the door is Bellamy. In an instant we wrap him up in a hug with huge smiles on our faces that only grow when we see Monty and Jasper standing right behind him. "I knew it. You two are too scrawny to drill," Octavia jokes with them before hugging them. Then someone in a hazmat suit walks out, making us both instinctively reach for our weapons but before we could Jasper stops us. Gently he reminds us that this is the girl, Maya, that's been helping them on the inside. With an apologetic smile we put our weapons away and wait for Clarke and Bellamy to finish up talking about what happened. He only knows that one second the grounder army was there and the next it was gone, there was no way for him to hear that Lexa called for a retreat without us saying anything. With Maya's oxygen level getting low we have two separate missions we have to accomplish and both aren't going to be easy. All the oxygen is on level five, where their whole army is waiting and watching over the people and supplies like hawks. Getting inside will be the easy part but finding enough tanks and then slipping back out without being seen will be the hard part. Then another team will have to go find Dante to talk about what to do next, although I doubt he'll want to talk after all we've done to his people. Still though we have a half an hour before her oxygen tank runs out which means we need to split up. "Monty, Clarke, and Bellamy go find and talk to Dante. Everyone else will come with me," Octavia says while taking her sword back out. With us splitting up and a lack of weapons on their side of the team and their mission being the most important I reluctantly hand Clarke's gun back. This is the last thing that we should do but with soldiers possibly hidden behind every corner we can't rely on Bellamy keeping all three of them safe. Before she could even say anything to Octavia and I we rushed through the open door with a worried Jasper and Maya right on our heels. Our anger was masked by their anxiousness so thankfully no one else thought anything of or sudden and fast paced exit. But the two people now leading us through the massive bunker have definitely noticed that something was bothering us. "What's wrong? Aren't you guys happy to see us after so long?" His words make us roll our eyes because he knows we're happy to see him, he's just using it as an innocent or inconspicuous way to ask us what's wrong. But he knows what's wrong already, even after being in the mountain and away from us and the drama for months he knows. So we don't even bother telling him more than simply saying her name bitterly through gritted teeth, "Clarke Griffin."
