Sage's POV
When we get closer to camp we hear yelling followed by multiple gunshots and then a dead silence falls over the surrounding areas, making us run the rest of the way to the gate. My eyes first fall onto the many guards having their guns drawn and pointed at no one in particular. Paranoia has set in about the virus and it'll only get worse since it seems that there is no way to contain it judging by the many missing people that are probably quarantined in the ship. Then I hear Clarke say something about us returning with a cure making my heart drop and body quickly go numb, "There is no cure," Octavia says sadly. She continues explaining what Lincoln told us about the use of the virus and what it's supposed to do, but since they don't have complete control over it some people may die like a few already have. Bellamy of course is mad that we went and starts threatening us as if he'll actually go through with them, especially after the other news we have for him, "The grounders are coming. They're coming at first light." Octavia squeezes my hand before running up to Finn to help him with Clarke while I turn to walk over to Raven just as Bellamy gets done talking to her. I barely overheard what he asked her to do and judging by how stressed she looks she needs all of the help she can get making as many bullets as she can by first light. I throw my arm over her shoulder and guide her to the tent while asking some of the guards to carry the containers of ammo over. The process of making the bullets is something that could make anyone go crazy, especially since they're already put together and we just have to "recharge" them as Raven would describe it. After sitting in that bunker for years the gunpowder retained a lot of moisture so we have to pull the bullets apart so get all the powder out and leave it out to dry. Once it's dry then we refill them and hope that they work. But this job is extremely dangerous and we don't have the correct tools to actually put the bullets together or take them apart and one wrong move could blow our fingers off. The rest of camp seems to be taking orders from Bellamy while people in the drop ship are doing whatever Clarke asks since she's way too tired to help the others, let alone herself. Since she knows how to take them apart and put them back together again sadly Raven has to be the one to do that job while I just empty and refill the shells once dry enough. Since we also have more bullets than gunpowder we also have to fill them halfway and that leads to a lot of duds.
Soon we fall into a rhythm and the outside noise melts away until Bellamy, Jasper, Monty, and Harper storm inside the tent and start arguing immediately. While we have enough bullets and casings most of the gunpowder is too ruined to use so all of the guns are down to five bullets each, making Harper scared shitless. She has every right to be but that's not why the argument started, it started because of Jasper trying to milk every single advantage his bullshit story out of any and every girl on camp. As if he actually protected us at the bridge he says that he'll also save her if something goes wrong causing Monty to scoff at how desperate and pathetic he sounds. What makes the tension worse is that Monty had to move back into Octavia and I's tent because of Jasper's newfound and unwarranted ego making him think he's better than him. So as soon as he scoffed the argument erupted and effectively ruined Raven and I's rhythm but she wasn't going to let that slide easily. "Hey, guys, stay focused. We're doing good. We need to get these rounds done." Then of course another interruption rushes into the tent as soon as she finishes speaking this one at least having a plan that would buy us some more time at least. Finn brings up the fluid we saw at the Exodus ship crash and how we can use it to slow down the grounders just enough that we can prepare more bullets and possibly build more traps. Raven already tried to bring some but before we fully left the crash site she got an uneasy feeling and left it there. On the way back we heard a huge explosion so we assumed the container broke when fire got too close to it, sending that section of the crater skyhigh for a brief moment. So when he says Murphy crossed over the same bridge we talked to the grounders on recently to get back here it makes sense that they would also use it to get to our campsite. "So Murphy is already getting better. The virus doesn't last long. Blowing up the bridge won't stop the attack, but the longer we delay it, the more of us will be able to fight," he says mainly looking between Bellamy and I. But Bellamy sees no way of the plan actually working because he forgot what the fuel did when Raven threw it into the fire and even if the fuel wasn't that potent she's smart enough to figure out how to blow it up with something else too. Although he's still super skeptical Bellamy gathers a team to take her back to the crash site and to help her carry all of the protective gear she needs to collect it safely. She teaches me how to take apart and put together the bullets before quickly leaving, now it's only Harper and I working on loading up the rest of the guns. Now that we have a bomb to make the rest of the gunpowder may have to be used for that instead for all we know. But for now this is all the bullets we will make and we definitely now have something to worry about.
