As time progressed, Atsumu did move on. He put aside all the pain he felt and went on with his life. He plastered a big, fake smile on his face, and he started to slowly rebuild his old life. He started to find that it was easier to smile again, even if he wasn't there with him anymore.
But what Atsumu couldn't face was a cup of coffee.
He couldn't bear looking at one, let alone drinking one. He had stopped working as a barista, and he devoted most of his time to volleyball.
Playing volleyball was a good distraction. Hitting the ball was a stress reliever, and it let Atsumu take out all the pent-up anger inside him.
But there were also things he couldn't face anymore, aside from a cup of coffee.
He couldn't go to the beach. He resented the beach.
He couldn't look out the window to watch snowflakes fall.
He couldn't listen to his favourite OSTs the same way again. But he still listened to them, despite the fact that his understanding of the songs had changed.
He couldn't sleep at night. During the day, his troubles and pains would be put aside in order for him to be able to carry out his day as per normal. But at night, his pain crept back at him and haunted him. He couldn't sleep from all the pain he felt, despite it being so many years.
But it all changed when Atsumu found out he got into the MSBY Black Jackals.
Atsumu smiles as he shoulders his bag, excitedly making his way to their training venue. Hinata and Bokuto would be there, and Atsumu was glad to see a few familiar faces.
He hasn't been this excited in ages.
Atsumu walks into the training venue, and he lets himself break into a smile. How easy it is to finally smile. The familiar shiny wooden floor and the net in the center of the court. The blue and yellow coloured balls lying around on the floor, inviting players to pick them up and start playing.
"Atsumu-san!"
Atsumu sees Hinata waving and next to him, Bokuto jumping up and down. He smiles and makes their way towards them. "Hey guys!" he greets.
"Hey hey hey, Atsumu!" Bokuto replies, giving the blonde a fist-bump.
"Atsumu-san, you need to meet someone. He's a really good spiker!" Hinata exclaims, his smile as bright as ever. "Can't be as good as you, can he?" Atsumu asks, winking at the orange-haired, who blushes in response.
"But he's really good! He's better than me! He was one of the top spikers back in Junior High!" Bokuto says. "Really? I'd like to see him then," Atsumu says.
"There he is!" Hinata says, pointing at someone.
Atsumu turns, ready to greet and smile at the skilled spiker the two males were talking about. As the tall figure approaches, Atsumu's bright smile falters.
The familiar hair, the mask, the dead look in his eyes.
"Atsumu, this is Sakusa Kiyoomi!" Hinata exclaims.
Sakusa stops a few metres away from Atsumu, and they both look at each other in shock.
The one who touched his heart and broke it.
The one who lied to him.
The one who made him be unable to do or look at certain things.
"Atsumu," Sakusa breathes out.
'Please don't say my name.'
'Don't look at me.'
'Don't smile at me.'
'Don't talk to me.'
'I might fall for you again.'
'But I'm scared of falling.'
'Because the last time I fell for you, I was the only who did.'
