"I think we knew each other to the extent that we couldn't say that we just knew each other."

Atsumu's spoon freezes in midair, held at least 4 centimetres away from his open mouth. He looks at Sakusa, who is staring right back at him. "Didn't we, Tsumu?" Sakusa asks, tilting his head and raising his brows at the blonde.

Fury ignites within Atsumu at the sound of his nickname, but he masks it by putting on a fake smile. "Yes we did, Omi," Atsumu says, emphasising the nickname he had originally created and called the dark-haired.

Sakusa's brows crease.

"Really? When? I didn't know!" Hinata exclaims, completely oblivious to the rising tension between the two males.

"Back in Junior High. We met at a cafe Atsumu worked at," Sakusa replies, taking his cup of water and drinking, his eyes fixed on the blonde.

"Wow! Then what happened? Did you two mantain contact?" Bokuto asks, apparently unaware of the tension too.

"No. Why would we?" Atsumu interjects, his tone sharp. Hinata and Bokuto exchange looks. "But you're friends, right? Friends mantain contact," Hinata points out.

"We do, don't we? But then what if you don't become friends anymore because the other lied to you? Would you still mantain contact with him?" Atsumu asks, raising his brows at the still drinking Sakusa.

"No of course not-" "But what if the friend didn't lie to you? What if you just accused him of lying when he actually didn't?" Sakusa interrupts, putting his cup down.

"Oh really? But what if that friend had feelings for the other but the other didn't feel the same way?" Atsumu retorts, leaning in.

Bokuto and Hinata lean back into their seats. "Uh guys, let's all just calm-" "What made you think he didn't feel the same way?" Sakusa cuts off.

"Let's just say that the friend saw the other with his former crush at the cafe. The friend didn't smile much, but when he was talking to his former crush he smiled. And then the former crush placed his hand on top of the friend's. So, tell me. Did the friend feel the same way?" Atsumu snaps.

"Well, maybe if the friend had seen what had happened afterwards-" "What if what the friend witnessed was intolerable- his crush, happier with someone else? Wouldn't you have done the same?" Atsumu interrupts.

Sakusa leans in. "I wasn't happy with him."

"Oh really? Then you must have been over the moon," Atsumu says, folding his arms.

"You know what made me feel like I'm over the moon? You. Not him. Not anyone else. But you," Sakusa says.

The anger bubbling in Atsumu falters, and the tightness in his folded arms loosens a little. "Using past tense, are we?" Atsumu forces out, raising his chin.

"I moved on," Sakusa says, shrugging.

"How easy, isn't it?" Atsumu asks, laughing and shaking his head.

"Maybe you should too. It's really immature for you to be dwelling on the past. You won't be able to be happy unless you let go. It's been years, but I can still see that you're the same. You're the same childish, stupid and terrible person, who assumes things without processing the situation. A person like you certainly has no place in this world, and would never be able to be loved," Sakusa snaps.

Silence fills the table, the four males not talking. Atsumu looks down. He didn't expect that. He didn't expect Sakusa to think of him like that. Never. Not Sakusa Kiyoomi. And yet, there it was.

Atsumu smiles as a tear drops down onto his lap. "I don't, do I?" he says.

Sakusa feels immense guilt swell in his chest. "No, Atsumu. I-" "I understand. It's what people think of me anyway," Atsumu says, holding his hand up.

"No that wasn't-" "Thank you, Sakusa. Thank you for making me feel special back then, even if I really wasn't," Atsumu says, standing up and taking his tray of unfinished food.

As tears stream down his cheeks, Atsumu walks briskly out of the cafeteria, dumping the tray and walking through the large glass doors with Sakusa calling his name.
