Hanji's POV
Upon waking up, I've realized something was different. First, I couldn't see anything clearly. All were little blobs of something. Fuzzy- as if I was looking at something in the distance. Yet just looking at the bedside lamp, it proved that I was looking at a blurred lamp. Huh... my glasses...
Still a bit sleepy, I didn't have complete control over my hand. It flopped all over my hand as I tried to feel if my glasses were on my face- none were there.
"W-Wha...?" I murmured as I pulled myself out of the bed. The blanket... it was neatly tucked under my body. What was the last thing I remember? "Oh... right..." Somehow I whispered that. "Levi tucked me in, didn't he?"
Falling asleep quickly was a talent I possessed. Almost like a gift to remember a few things before I drift off to a deep sleep. I remember hearing some sort of muffled sounds from a distant male. If I could piece it together, I would assume it would've been Levi. Ruling out other possibilities- like Erwin or something. What was the last thing Levi said to me?
Groggily, I pushed my glasses onto my face and stumbled out of the room. It's... too quiet. Not too quiet because I can hear the TV on. Those distant cartoon sound effects and cheesy jokes for little kids to make them giggle. If I could listen carefully... I think I can hear the sweet angels' laughter.
Then... the smell hit me.
It was... delicious. The aromatic smell of garlic filled the air and the acidic tomato sauce... was it probably spaghetti?
"Ah, you're awake, sleepy-head?" Nanaba chuckled a bit, spinning her fork in her bowl of pasta. "Wanna a bowl?"
"Y-Yeah..." I nodded, taking a seat at the table as Nanaba went to go make my bowl. There was a loud bang from the TV, and I quickly turned my attention there. The kids were too busy in awe, slightly eating their dinner. Who I saw with the kids... "Levi's still here?"
"He said he was going to stay for the night. Something about wanting to ensure someone was safe." Nanaba glared at me with such judgmental eyes- "You know what I mean?"
At first, I was going to tell her I didn't understand. Then... like a wall, I slammed into it. My cheeks grew warm and red. "N-Nanaba?! Come on, it's not like that."
"I mean... your relationship with Erwin is pretty much over-"
"We're on a break, Nanaba. I just needed time to think over our relationship. That's all."
Nanaba intertwined her fingers together, resting her chin on it. A mischievous smile grew on her child-like face. Little stray hairs slightly swaying in the air. "Oh? So tell me, Hanji Alexia Zoe, who would you choose? Officer Levi Ackerman or Lawyer Erwin Smith?"
What should I say...? Neither? Of course, it seemed I've stopped loving Erwin. Something about Levi... it wouldn't leave me. My attention kept turning towards the TV... not just where the kids were... but it was where Levi was. This seriously can't be happening...
"Looks like we have an answer."
"I didn't even answer!"
"Is something wrong over there?" Levi's head turned toward us with a look of concern. "Hanji? You're up already? At least go and eat..." Then his attention turned back to the TV.
He didn't allow me to answer... yet... yet...
"He's so cute and adorable like that, huh?" Nanaba chuckles, shaking her head. "Like I said before... if I could date Levi, I could. But it seems like his eyes are only on you. Now, he's probably not wanting to make a move on you- after all you just broke up with Erwin..."
"Like I said, I didn't break up with him."
"Going on a break is considered breaking up. The break lasts forever."
"I'm... not even ready to leave..."
Nanaba never fails me. "Cheer up, girl." She says in such a cheerful tone. "It'll be alright. That I promise, okay? Just... keep your chin up. You'll have a great feature. Anyways- go and eat dinner. Levi's an amazing cook too..."
"H-He made this?!" I shut my mouth immediately, realizing I spoken too loud again. "This man keeps surprising me more and more... I kinda hate it."
"Aww... you're blushing."
"Am not!"
* * *
Towards midnight, I saw Levi sitting at the table with his nearly empty tea cup in hand. He sighs heavily, drinking the rest of it before washing it in the sink. The kids were already tucked in bed already... why was he up? Then, that's when I saw him walk to the couch.
"You don't have to sleep there, you know."
He turns to me, chuckling slightly. "I rather not be rude and take one of the rooms-"
"You're a guest here." With every passing second, I walked towards him as my heart pounded. Was Nanaba right? "You don't have to sleep on the couch. You can take one of those rooms upstairs- it'll be right between one of the boys' rooms and my room."
"You didn't have to, Hanji. I would've been just fine on the couch."
He stared back at me, almost like he was examining my face. He didn't answer for a time. Just... staring at me. It happened in an instant- I didn't expect such a heart-warming smile. Time stopped- where everything was frozen in place and not himself. My skin grew warm just by the sight of his gaze...
"Alright then. I give up." Grunting off the couch, he walks right next to me, looking up to my face. "Show me where I'm sleeping then."
I led him to his room, and whispering, "Goodnight," to him before I went to my own room. I've never looked back to see his reaction. But I've could've sworn I saw his saddened eyes watching me leave. Was I... too cruel?
