Chapter 27

Lady Antebellum : SUCKS! :: Airborne Toxic Event : ROCKS!

" ... I'm a little drunk and I need you right now."

I scowl on the bench I sat on that was so short it felt like I could rest my head on my knees. Not to mention the two women on each side of my that were both middle aged yet eyeing me up as if I was candy ... or the next boy to set up with their daughter, ew. And I also hated the stupid song they were playing in the store. Their radio seemed to be stuck on Stupid Kind Of Country Pop Songs That Suck station or SKOCPS TS FM. I swear if I hear one more Taylor Swift song I was going to kill someone.

"You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset about something that you said."

Okay, that's it.

I shot up from the bench quicker than lightning and narrowly avoided being pounced on by the two old hags and went in search for Kriss. When we had came into the store one of the employees carted Kriss away for 'girl shopping' and leaving me to defend for myself against the onslaught of old women and horrible country songs.

"Here, this would be perfect on you." I heard the same cheery voice from before in the dressing room area and headed in that direction.

"Kriss?" Some people were looking at me weirdly but I ignored then as I found Kriss and the cheery sales-lady person in front of one of the dressing stalls.

When Kriss saw me, her eyes brightened and she sent me a look that screamed HELP ME! and I could see why. The sales-lady person was creepy and had stuffed Kriss's arms with ugly preppy clothes.

"Uh, excuse me," after I shoved through a bunch of old women and preppy girl and I finally made it to Kriss and the sales-woman I quickly thought up a lie. "We have to go, my uh, aunt is in the hospital and we have to get there quick!" I took the clothing out of Kriss's fragile arms and shoved them back at the sales-lady. "Put those back for us, will you?"

Then we both bolted out of the store and all the way to the food court. "That was crazy!" Kriss shout-whispered at me as we sat at one of the tables. "Those people there weren't very nice. One girl kept looking at me weirdly. I didn't like her."

I laughed and scooted Kriss's chair closer to mine. "Yeah, but now I don't know what store I should take you to." I frowned. I only went to that place because that's where Evie shopped at and that was the only store I knew girls shopped at except Justice and it will be a cold day in Hell before I ever walk into there.

"Emerson! Is that you?" I turned towards the voice, Charmaine. "Hey, what are you doing here?"

Shopping, duh.

"I'm helping Kriss find some new clothes." I told her.

"Oh, so where's Kriss."

"Right here-where the hell did she go?" I turned and saw Kriss's chair empty and panic welled up inside me. Then I felt a familiar hand tap my shoulder from behind and I turned.

Kriss.

She held a blue slushie in one hand, sipping on it happily as she waved at me.

"Where did you get that?" I asked as she sat back down behind me. "And how did you pay for it?"

"Oh, that guy over there gave it to me and said 'It was on the house'." Kriss smiled at me then offered me, "Want some?"

I was about to shake my head when I saw a piece of paper attacked to the styrofoam cup with a number and 'Call Me' written on it. I ripped the paper off, crumpled it up and turned towards Slushie world where the slushie cashier looked at me and swallowed as I glare. The as he stared I pointedly tossed the paper into the closest trash can. Stupid pedophile. Okay, I know Kriss is nineteen but she doesn't look like it so technically he's a pedophile since he doesn't know her age, or at least in my eyes he is.

And Kriss is just so clueless about all this, sipping away at her drink.

"Hey, Charmaine," I turned my attention back to her. "Do you know any good stores that I could take Kriss to?"

"Hmmm," Charmaine thought, looking at Kriss perspectively. "Kriss could you stand up, sweetie?" Kriss stood up just like she said, still sipping on her drink appreciatively. "Oh, I know the perfect place!" Charmaine cheered with a clap.

"Great! Let's go!" I stupidly replied.

Then I actually saw the store.

I turned to face Charmaine straight on with the scariest scowl on my face that I could muster then said, "Aw ... hell ... no."

But she didn't even flinched, only smiled and turned to Kriss. "Come on, girly, let's get some clothes!"

Kriss whooped with a jump and started following Charmaine into the store but I pulled her back with a growl. "You are not going in there."

The store not only look nasty, unkept, and gross but also unsanitary ... and illigal. It's front entrance was spray painted like a warehouse with old graffiti and inside there were barely any lights except for the flashing strobe and disco lights. And from what little I could see, it didn't really have appropriate clothing.

"Please Emerson?" I looked down at Kriss, her big silvery eyes glossing over with unshed tears.

Oh god, was she going to start crying? But the store was horrible! But I couldn't stand to see her crying! But ... "Okay, just be-"

"Yay!" Kriss shouts and bounds over to Charmaine.

"... careful." I grimance and let out a sigh before truding into hell behind the two girls.

"Oh! That's so cute!" Charmaine exclaimed and started running towards a rack.

"No!" I growled when I saw what she was heading for and pulled off a rack. It was the shortest little ... thing, made up of-what was it? Leather? I don't know but it was shiny and had a shirt that could pass for a belt and a shirt that could pass for a bra ... a very uncovering bra. It looked like something a hooker would wear and I'll be damnned before Kriss even sets foot by one of those. "No, no, no, Kriss is not going to wearing anything revealing like that! She needs basic clothing like pants, shirts, skirts, and jackets-"

"And underwear," Charmaine added and I gave her a glower. She snorted at before while putting up the weird hooker piece of cloth then turned back to me. "I know what Kriss needs and you just need to chillax and let me work my magic. I maybe promise she won't turn into a whore." She rolled her eyes at me and I let out a semi-satisfied grunt.

"It's okay, Emmie," Kriss whispered beside me before grabbing hold on one of my hands and smiling up at me. She used her other hand to shove on my shoulders and I gave her a weirded out look before squatting down to her level. She gave a small smile then leaned forward and kissed my forehead like I would do for her. "Come on Emmie, we have to help Charmaine. Geez, do you see how much clothes she picked out already and what she picked out? It's all hipster junk. Ew."

"Yeah, come on."

Actually it was pretty fun going shopping with the two girls even if that sounds like hell ... it wasn't too bad. The first outfit Charmaine chose and forced Kriss to wear was terrible and Kriss said, and I quote, "I look like a hipster threw up on me." unquote. Then we all started looking around and I was actually quite shocked with Kriss's choice of clothing. With all the time she spends with my sister I would have thought she would have gotten pinks and purples and skirts and dresses and junk but she absolutely loved corduroys, you know those kind of pants Shaggy off of Scooby-Doo would wear? Yeah, she liked those a lot, those and long sleeved shirts, her favorite color was a dark purple.

And you know what, the place wasn't even all that bad if you didn't go in the section in the back with the hooker boots and fake d-

You know what? I'm not even going to think about going back there. We hung out in the area with Bob Marley t-shirts, skinny jeans and awesome hats that Kriss loved. And the music wasn't even that bad. We even heard one of my favorite songs and all started dancing to it.

"All these buckets of rain, I've heard enough about it. You say that I lie. I am a gentleman!" The song sang and I watched as Kriss head banged, throwing in her hair in a tangle. Just watching her smile and have fun, I knew I wanted every day to be like this

Minus the Taylor Swift songs.
