Chapter 32
"Kriss," I growled, "No one owns you, except you."
"She owns us," Kriss growls, looking at the table and her clenched hands. "She owns me. We are monsters, all of us monsters. We don't want to be monsters, I don't want to be a monster. My father said she she would help but it was only getting worse and they got very, very ... mad. I tried! I tried so hard!" Kriss yelled, slamming her fist on the table, her sholders shaking with anger.
I couldn't see her eyes but I would imagine them clutched tight in anger like her mouth was, showing off sharpening canines. Then suddenly the tension in her sholders dropped and she began to sob softly. "But it was never enough because I've always been wrong, I was born wrong! My life is wrong and sick and twisted! I couldn't do anything right. I can't do anything right! All I am is a monster, an evil, evil creature that has no soul and that doesn't even deserve hapiness!" She spat out with a choked cry and I sat back in shock. I-I didn't know Kriss held so much in her, so much self-hatred. Then in a whispered sob she said, "I don't deserve them, I don't deserve you, I don't deserve to be around people., I don't deserve to breathe!"
I shot to her side like a bullet and pulled her into a hug, "Don't say that stuff about yourself, don't ever say that about yourself. You deserve all of that and more, Kriss. Sh, I'm going to go make some hot chocolate and you and I are going to talk about things okay, sweetie? Sh, stop crying, shh."
What the hell was I doing?
I was letting her in again and so quickly too. Fuck my life.
She rubbed her eyes with the palms of her hands, looking up at me to give me a sheepish smile. "Okay," she whispered, her voice a bit rough from all the crying.
I took her small hand in one of mine and in awkward silence I lead her to the kitchen we had in the Pack House. The halls were dark and silent as they should be at this time of the night and our foot steps on the tile echoed around us.
When we got to the kitchen I let Kriss get comfortable on the couch as I made two drinks with lots of marshmellows then set them on the coffee table in front of us.
"Kriss, can you explain to me how you ended up there?" I asked as I turned to face her.
She shrugged, stirring her hot cocoa, "I've always been there I guess. There was never I time I remembered any other place. Though, the animals came in at different times, some had been there even before me but came in years after.
"What are the animals?" I asked.
Kriss scoffed with a scowl on her face, "they're ... " she growled, "mindless monsters. I don't know where they came from but they would come in normal, like you but then after a couple of months they would become these ... beast, mentally and physically. They would have enormous teeth, grow ten feet tall and a bloodlust large enough to kill off the entire world, to obliderate everything in it's path. And worst of all we all had this ... shift that left us in this hideous in between stage of animal and man.
I sat back to just take that in. Was she telling the truth? The thought of a werewolf like those, one of those movie generated werewolves just made me want to laugh. In fact me and my guy friends would sometimes have movie marathon of those lame werewolf movies just to make fun of them. To think that werewolves like that might actually exsist, I don't think I could deal with that.
The closest to that I could think of was actually rouges, which were shifters who were cause tramatic loss sometime in their life and went insane, roaming the country side with blood lust but most of the time were tame lone wolves hiding out in caves only to strike if provoked like actual wolves.
