Chapter 54  - Final chapter before the epilogue

*Warning: GORE in capital letter*

***Mora***

Mora's expression hardens when she notices the familiar house. After debating with herself, she decides to block her bond with Kaiden, so that he couldn't feel her emotions. With a groan, she enters and stares at the familiar carpet, the shoes, the legos, and her mother.

"You're back?" Her mother smiles and sets the casserole on the table. "So, how did it go?"

"How did what go?" Mora responds.

Her mother gives her a side-eye. "Your date~ Don't try to lie to me. I know you guys have been seeing each other for a while. Ella even saw you guys."

Mora picks up a chip from the plate on the table and watches her mother carefully. Her warm brown skin shone with happiness and her smile with confidence.

"It was okay." Mora feels her stomach turn and looks away. But, like a moth drawn to fire, she couldn't help but steal another glance at her mother.

"Just okay?" She asks, her eyes twinkling.

It was fascinating to see her mother look at her with such love, understanding, and care. As if Mora was the center of her world and her everything. There was no confusion nor estrangement. It wouldn't so bad to be trapped in this world.

Mora stills and tries to memorize her mother's expression,  but, before she could get far, the door jingles, revealing his father. The warmth of the room plummets and her bubble of happiness burst.

"My ladies," Her father states as he sets a bouquet of flowers on the table and his suitcase on a chair.  With a slight grin, he pulls Mora into a hug, stunning her, and kisses her forehead. Soon after, the warmth was gone and there he was handing her mother a bouquet and kissing her cheeks.

Mora didn't know how to react nor how to feel. She touches her forehead warily and clenches her trembling fingers.

"What the hell?" She snarls, choosing anger.  Their heads snap toward her and they frown simultaneously. "When did you ever care?"

"Of course we care about you, sweety. You are our beautiful daughter and we love you. You are our pride and happiness." Her mother responds in a soft tone as if chiding her for not realizing their love for her.

"Mora? What's wrong?" Her father asks in a confused tone.

His voice cracks and his forehead creased, drawing the perfect picture of innocence. It made her even angrier.

"You," She points at her father, her finger trembling in fury. "are what is wrong with me, you motherfucking piece of scum. You're the one who makes me hate myself the way you do. You make me feel like I won't ever amount to anything decent. Like I'm a burden, a nobody, and a MONSTER. But, you are the one that created me, you hypocritical inbred dildo. "

By the last word, Mora was screaming. She reminds herself that all of this was an illusion. None of it was realm but the sight of her father acting so lovingly triggers her. It boils her blood. How dare he pretends that he was a devoted father or that their lives were ever normal?

"That's not true, Mora." He takes a few steps toward her and she moves away. He stops in place and rubs his temple.  "I'm not sure what's going, but I want you to know that I never hated you in my life. I swear on the Goddess. You and your mother are the light in my life, and I have never been ashamed of you or thought of you as a monster. I don't know where these things are coming from, but I want you to know that I'm here for you."
