Chapter 19

Carly trails behind the group frowning. She recalls the moment that she returned to her house to find her dad sitting on the couch waiting for her.

"Where were you?" Her father asks coldly without turning around.

"Dad? Are you feeling better now? Yesterday, you weren't like yourself. You were smiling and cooking. and-"

"Attention!" Beta Joseph yells. Carly's spine straightened, and fear spread through her.

"Where. were. you!?" He asks biting each word.

"I slept out, sir." Carly swallowed hard and her hands start trembling.

"3 laps around the pack. 200 burpees. No dinner!" He turns around and heads out the living room.

"Yes, sir!" She had forgotten that the unmovable and cold piece of steel that her father was.

Before he walks out, he stops in the doorway. "Since you failed to become the next Luna, I expect you to put Zamora in her place and become the next Beta."

"Yes, sir!" Carly's emotions blanket and numbness spread through her.

Carly pulls into a parking spot next to Kaiden and looks at her humming passenger. She glances at the familiar smile and red lips that teased her endlessly.  "It's time to get serious Willow."

Raol exclaimed in surprise. "You already know her, Carly? She transferred yesterday which is kind of weird since it's in the middle of our first semester year and senior year. But, so did Mora." Raol exclaims and rationalizes his doubts.

Willow's smile widens, and they stare at each other, immerse in their own world while they ignore Raol.

Kaiden parks the car and pulls out a mask, handing it to Mora. Mora scrunches her face and Kaiden laughs.

"This a magic mask. It will help mask the scents of this city." Kaiden carefully arranges the mask on a disgruntled Mora. "Trust me!" Mora sticks out her tongue and wrinkles her nose which was overwhelmed by the scent of magic. She sits back and accepts her fate.

"We're leaving, lovebirds! Thanks for the ride!" Eros yells pulling a blushing Jade behind him.

Mora was about to open the door, but Kaiden stops her. He brushes her cheeks and under her eyes. He sighs sadly and kisses her bruised eyes. "Look at your dark circles." He whispers. "Let's forget everything and have fun today! Later, I will have a surprise for you."

Mora leans her mate's warm hand and nods.  "Let's go!"

"Okay. Okay. Mora. Your goal is to knock down the pins at the end of this lane. Swing your hands back slowly and gently throw the ball down the lane, using less than 10% of your strength." Kaiden demonstrates and hands Mora the ball.  Mora wrinkles her brows and concentrates.

It was lighter than she thought it would be. She pulls back her arm and swing ... nothing? She looks back shocked to find a startled Kaiden standing at his tippy toes with the ball in his hands. She silently takes back the ball and continues.  After throwing the ball in every wrong direction, Mora breathes in deeply and silently challenges the pins. You won't bring me down today!

She pulls back her arms and gently throws the ball down the lane.

"Shit!" Kaiden exclaims as his jaw drops open. RUN! He shouts through their link. Kaiden panics and grabs Mora's arm. They quickly exchange their shoes and quickly run out of the building. Thanks to their wolf speed, nobody knew what was going on.
