Chapter 16

I dreamed that I was in a burning house, dragging a woman outside. Each step suffocated me, but, for some reason, I had to keep going or something would happen. I ignore the pain that seared my hands and feet and finally got her out of the burning house. However, when I blinked, she disappeared leaving me alone next to the burning house.

I open my eyes to find my side empty. I look around to find Kaiden curled in the window seal, looking outside. When he notices my presence, he uncurls and smiles tiredly.

"Hey." He whispers softly, his voice still rough from sleep.

"Hey." I slowly toss the sheets away and walks toward him silently. "What are you doing?"

He rubs his hand on the back of his neck. "Just thinking. had a nightmare?" I nod and he winces. "Those can be a bitch."

I hum in agreement. "It was okay." We stand in silence and stare at each other, hiding our pains from each other.

 "You can try to get some more sleep. I'll watch over you." I hum and head toward the bathroom. I drop my facade as I stare at the mirror.  I release a shaky breath and try not to cry. 

The woman in the burning house looks like the woman I met at my school. She looks a lot like my mother.  I open the water and wash my face. I recall my dream with a sigh and tried to analyze the details.

 It was the house that my mom told me to run away from. It was the same house that was burning down. Instead of my mother telling me to run like in the previous times, this time, it was me dragging her unconscious body for her to disappear?

I walk out of the bathroom and stare at Kaiden who had his back to me. I made my way to him and wrap my hands around him. He startles and relaxes when he saw me. We stood there until the sun came up and it was time to go to school.

"I," I said turning Kaiden to face me. "I saw my mother in my dreams." I stare at him waiting for his reactions, but then I realize I never told him about what happened when I was unconscious. "I keep having different dreams about her. Things that I don't remember. So... what I'm to say is that I trust you. It's okay to share things with me." 

"I want us to be safe and happy. I feel so stifled here, so I want to leave with you." Kaiden smiles wryly and leans forward as he closes his eyes. "Thank you for trusting me." I...   just thinking that I really am a puppet. Without my parents' protection and riches, I am nothing. I always looked forward to being the alpha, the most respected, the strongest, and the most adored. I thought that it was going smoothly, but-

I frown when I hear footsteps approach our doors and our walking clock knocks on the door. "Time to wake up!" Aurora walks away and continues to knock on the doors down the hallway.  I roll my eyes and Kaiden chuckles. 

"Let's get ready for school." He said turning his back to me.

 I walk an amused but tired Kaiden to class and waves to his friends near the door. I wanted to kiss away the shadows under his eyes like I did this morning and reassures him that I got him. I wasn't put off by the argument and stress. It was the perfect time to convince him to move to my cave with me.

Not only did yesterday did not go well, but Kaiden also has a test on his 2nd period. But, he had a tired smile on his face, so he, at least, gain something yesterday.  It was still a stressful day for him.

Thankfully, I was still pretty new at being half-human, so I didn't have to worry about taking a test yet.

Jade passes us by and grins. "Cute hair."
