Shay doesn't do normal

The last week had definitely not been my proudest moments. Between the breakdown and the sprouting wings everyone was treating me with kid gloves and I was over it. I woke up with a pep in my step, determined to get things back to normal. I start off by going to Hagrid's and picking up Spike. He'd been staying with Hagrid since I was in the hospital wing and I'd been a bit too overwhelmed to make the trip down to get him back. "Shayla! How are you feeling?" Hagrid asks and I smile, hugging him. "Much better, thank you. I'm here to get back to normal actually so I'll make the rounds and feed everyone before taking Spike back" I say and Hagrid frowns. "Spike is all better, Shayla. He needed to go back to his family so I took him back to the forest and he's adjusting well. I'm sorry, dear" he says and I frown. "It's ok... I want what's best for him" I say, going out to feed the other animals and silently mourn the loss of my pet. I'm feeding Buckbeak when I hear a small meow from behind me. "Merida" I say, smiling at her as she rubs up on my leg. "Silly girl, what are you doing out here?" I ask, bending down to pet her. She blinks up at me and I laugh. "I did not forget you, I could never forget you. You're my babygirl" I coo at her and she flops over so I can pet her belly. I give her some love before scooping her up and heading back inside Hagrid's hut. "I fed everyone outside. Do you need my help with anything else?" I ask and he shakes his head. I head back to the castle and sigh. I couldn't stand having nothing to do. I decide to look for Fred and I frown a bit when I find him in the library with Cho Chang. "Hi guys" I say, sitting down at the table with them. She glares at me before putting on a fake smile. "Hey, Shayla. How are you feeling?" She asks and I shrug. "I'm feeling just fine, Cho" I say, turning to Fred. "Are you busy or can we talk?" I ask and he gets up, smiling at me. "I'm never too busy for you, we were just working on coursework" he says and Cho frowns. "Is that all this was? I thought you said you needed someone to vent to" Cho says and Fred looks down. "Seriously?" I say, turning to look at Fred and he's not making eye contact. "Someone had to be there for him, you went crazy" Cho said and I glare at her. "You don't know shit about me or my life so just leave me and my boyfriend alone" I say, taking Fred's hand and leaving. "Really Fred?! Cho Chang?" I ask and he shrugs. "That's the worst person you could have picked! Even the Patil twins are better than her, at least they only gossip" I say and he looks up at me. "What was I supposed to do? You promised me you'd make more time this year but you didn't, I can't come to you because your stress levels are so high. I can't vent to our friends because they'll all defend you to me. You can do no wrong with any of them. And just when I think I can finally talk to you, things can maybe calm down, you go and grow fucking wings!" He says. I flinch, feeling tears in my eyes but refusing to let them fall yet. "Fuck you, Fred Weasley! You asked me what you're supposed to do, you're supposed to talk to me! Or talk to someone who isn't already in love with you! You think Cho Chang is so fucking great why don't you go date her?!" I yell, storming off to my dorms. I feel my back starting to burn again and I groan. "Don't you fucking dare come out" I hiss at myself, just trying to make it to my room before the wings reappear. I make it to the commons before they pop out and Alex and Susan are right there to hide me as we head to the dorms. "Fuck boys, fuck Cho Chang, and fuck these stupid wings" I groan, finally letting myself cry. Alex holds me, gently rubbing my hair as she tries to soothe me. "I'd rub your back but that's not really an option right now. Take some deep breaths for me" Susan says, trying to calm me down. But this doesn't feel like a normal breakdown. This was huge and messy and I don't want to just brush it off. Once I do finally calm down enough that the wings disappear again I still can't stop crying. I knew it was stupid but I honestly thought Fred loved me so I didn't see how this had happened. I pull myself together enough to admit the truth. "I need Pyper. Can you find her for me and have her meet me in the library?" I ask and Susan nods, heading off to find Pyper. I grab my coursework and head to the library, not sure how long it would take but knowing right now I just needed my sister.
