-Mia-

David and I were laid under the sheets in bed, I softly traced my finger over the scars on his back.

"How long were you in he Army?" I wondered my gaze flickering to meet his.

"10 years." he replied

"Is that what you always wanted to do?"  I asked trailing my fingers up his back.

"You'd probably laugh." he paused "When I was in school, I wanted to be a doctor." I smiled softly.

"I'm not laughing." I stated "Why didn't you?"

"To get into medical school, you need work experience. How do you get that? By knowing a Doctor who can get you in. I had no idea where to start so, I never applied." I hummed and looked down at his scar. I had never seen a scar of that magnitude before.

"Does it hurt?" I questioned

"Not anymore. I'm one of the lucky ones."

"Because you survived." I thought out loud.

"Aye, that to." he leant in to kiss me a happily returned it.

"Even if it could cost me my job."

"Hmm, sex with the Home Secretary's and PM's chief whips daughter. It's a heinous crime." I joked, we laughed softly. We stayed like that for a while till my alarm went off. I groaned.

"Ignore it."

"I wish I could, but that is the sound of reality breaking the spell, my alarm was cut off my a phone call. I removed the covers, and looked at Caller ID.

"Deep joy." I sigh and picked it up.

"Hi Dad." I looked over my shoulder at David and lean in for a quick kiss, before getting up.

-3rd Pov-

David was back in his own room brushing his teeth when he heard a muffled conversation, stepping out he figured it was coming from Julia's room, he grabbed the listening device and held it up to her door. He glanced back to Mia's door, it was locked she was having a shower and be getting ready for the day. David turned back to listen in

"...we don't know if there was a connection or if he was acting alone." Stephen Hunter-Dunn stated talking about the sniper attack that had occurred almost a week and a half ago.

" It's RIPA 18 isn't it? It's made me and my daughter a target." Julia wrangled her hands together, the nervous tone to her was evident

"There is one other possible conclusion" Julia furrowed her eyebrows

"What do you mean?" she asked

"The only plausible conclusion, your itinerary was leaked." Stephen said

"By the police? They set me up." she sighed trying to keep herself calm.

"If it wasn't for that meeting running late." she shook her head "They almost killed my daughter, my daughter who never asked for any of this. They put her in harms way, if it was just me, I get it I'm the one that is doing all of this but to let it touch her." she stood up

"They set me up and it's obvious why." She stated

"Home Secretary?"

"Our Arrangement." she added looking down.

"no one knows, I can assure you that." Stephen promised "In regard to which, we need to establish the most secure means of getting the material to you."

"Not via the office" she told him and Stephan nodded

"Have a good day, Home Secretary." he left her room and David pulled away.

-Mia-

I was now dressed and ready for the day when a knock came at my door. I opened it and David was staring there with my mother.

"Good Morning Sargent Budd."

"Good Morning Ms." I grabbed my bag

"Morning Mum." I gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"Morning sweetheart, sleep well?"

"Slept, perfect." I told her and briefly glanced at David who was now walking in front of us.

"I got a call from Dad this morning, asking how I was."

"That was nice of him."

"That is the only time you don't curse him under the sun is when he does something fatherly."

"Well, Mia, he may been a crap husband but he is a good father, to you." she stated as we stopped in front of the lift.

"Careful, Mum, your soft side is showing." she chuckled and shook her head.

"Only for you, though." We stepped into the lift and went down. the doors opened and I stopped.

"Sorry, i just realised I needed to use the loo." I stated Tom and David looked at each other

"Sorry skipper, but we don't have any female officers on duty yet." Tom stated. David looked around.

"Okay this way Ma'am."

"Could you?" I asked my Mum gesturing to my bag, she nodded and I left. David opened the door to the bathroom.

"Police officer. i need to ask if anyone's in here." There was no answer. He went in and double checked.

"All clear Ma'am." I looked behind us then back to him. I shut the door and pushed him against it, our faces were close as I leant in to kiss him, he kissed back.

"Sorry, couldn't resist." he chuckled.

"It's good, love." I grinned and kissed him again and sighed. Pulled away and fixed myself, I then looked at him via the mirror and smiled.

We got into the car and fixed ourselves in on the way to the office. I sighed, I felt heavy and weighed down.

"Can you turn the radio on please." I asked, I needed a distraction, David did so and Dancing in the moonlight by Top loader came on, I grinned and looked at my Mum who was still looking down at her work. When she used to take me to school on the mornings that she actually had free time, she would always play this song, it was before she became so busy and was driven everywhere.

I started to sing along and encouraging my mother to do so.

"Mia I'm working."

"Come on, you know you want to..." I carried on singing and she finally gave in sang along. We swayed, our attempt at dancing in a car and with documents on our lap. Once the song finished we were laughing. I caught sight of David looking at me in the rearview mirror. i grinned.
