Chapter 2 | ❝ Can we change the subject? ❞

Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 - 11:56 a.m.

❝HEY, KELSEY! OVER here!" a sweet voice rang out towards the blonde at her locker.

The girl in question spun around with her Literature textbook in hand. Her black fleece cardigan rode over her right hand slightly as she gripped onto the hardcover book. Kelsey's wavy hair radiantly complimented her hazel eyes which were as bright as the genuine smile upon her face.

Kelsey pushed her locker door shut with her free hand before her left arm came to wrap around her book to hold it against her chest. Her friend, Lyla, was across the hallway with a welcoming expression on her pale, heart-shaped face.

With grace, Lyla rippled her fingers into a miniature wave. The short, baby pink acrylics on her nails sparkled in the light before she slipped her hand back into the pocket of her denim skirt. Her petite stature of five foot one did nothing to wave her confidence. In fact, it made her more likeable and adorable to say the least.

Kelsey found herself walking across the hall, her fern green Converse sneakers tapping gently among the tiled floor as she did so. The hallways were currently bustling with students, however the blonde did not seem to care. She loved being in the center of her group of friends more than anything. Within the group of several people around her that she called her friends, Kelsey always felt included.

"Hey, Lyla!" The greeting whisked delicately through her contagious smile. "What class do you have next?"

Lyla seemed disinterested in the topic of classes, however she went along with it anyway. "I have US History, which sounds incredibly boring," she grumbled. "How about you?"

"Literature, which I should probably go to soon." Kelsey shrugged while revealing the title of the textbook in her arms.

The petite girl's next question was a little surprising to the blonde. "You know you don't have to care so much about a silly little class, right?"

"What do you mean?" Kelsey's hazel eyes narrowed a bit in confusion, yet curiosity. "Are you asking me to skip?"

Kelsey was indeed one of the popular teenagers of Oceanview High, but she was studious as well. Due to her desiring to enroll in a good college in the future, she scraped every single bit of extra credit she could find. She was definitely a hardworking person, but Kelsey always made time for her friends over everything else.

The last thing she wanted to do was be late for a class she required a good grade for.

"You can at least spare a couple minutes, can't you? Besides, you're always like five minutes early," Lyla reasoned with a sense of nonchalance in her tone.
