Chapter 10 | ❝ Yes. I. Do. ❞

Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 - 7:26 p.m.

"I THINK WE all can agree that we're worried about August and his absence from school yesterday is quite concerning because he never, and I mean never skips school."

Harper rolled his eyes amusedly at Mason. "No dip, Sherlock. Why do you think we're all here at this hour when we could easily be eating dinner or watching Netflix or something?"

"I don't know." Mason shrugged.

Zach, Kelsey, Harper, and Mason found themselves in front of August's family's large home in quite a nice neighborhood. Only one of the four had been there previously, that being Kelsey since Lyla, August's sister, used to be her best friend. August was very secretive when it came to his place of residence since he was a very modest person. No one other than Kelsey had been and it was for a valid reason.

After Mason shared his concern with the group about being unable to find August after the lunch period the previous day, the other members of the group, including Phoebe and Autumn who were currently absent, were a bit worried. The icing on the cake was August not returning to school the next couple of days, which was an oddity. It was his first absence since he began high school in the ninth grade.

"I tried texting him, but he hasn't answered," Zach added on. "Doesn't it say when someone's read it?"

Kelsey nodded. "Yeah, it does unless you turn the read receipts setting off. I tried texting him too, but he hasn't read mine, I don't think."

"Same here."

"Me too," Harper agreed.

"Me three," concluded Mason with an anxious tone.

"Let's hope his maniac devil of a sister isn't here," Kelsey scoffed, remembering back to what occurred the previous time she was there. "She's annoying."

"You're telling me." Harper was quick to concur once again.

Mason was not amused either. "Right? Why did she feel the need to get Principal Miles and land Zach in detention?"

"That was her intention all along," revealed Kelsey despite everyone already knowing that.

"I only have a few days left next week," Zach reminded them in a matter of fact tone. "Besides, it isn't too bad. I'm getting around to reading books after such a long time."

"Maybe August will let you read his when it's finished," Mason suggested.

Kelsey's eyes widened in thought. "He's writing a book?"

"Yeah, actually," Mason continued to speak. "He doesn't like talking about it, so don't tell him I told you or he might smack me over the head with a textbook."
