Chapter 15 | ❝ Hayleigh...you're looking at him. ❞
Monday, November 26th, 2018 - 3:37 p.m.
THE TWO TEENAGERS checked out their library books with no other sign of Jaylen and Lyla. Their antics were not serious, but they were more annoying to say the least. As much as Kelsey hated to admit it, they probably were in some dark corner of the Oceanview library making out since that was what some couples tended to do on school grounds. Kelsey never understood why people would do such things on school property.
She never did so with Jaylen.
Kelsey despised the fact the boy who used to treat her like she was the only girl in the world had indeed discovered there was another...and he chose her instead. On a positive note, she was in a much better situation now. Sometimes, blooms arise from the deadest trees and rain sprinkles on the driest land. She had someone who truly cared with no strings attached.
Zach and Kelsey brought their library dilemma to Principal Miles, who excused Zach for the rest of detention due to his head injury and told him to go home to tend to his needs since the nurse's office had closed. To their surprise, Principal Miles herself walked to the library and escorted them to her office.
Long story short, the two of them received an afternoon of detention on that Thursday along with the fee of the book they had damaged. The librarian gave Kelsey her money back when she discovered what exactly had happened.
Kelsey drove Zach home when everything was resolved. The two were quiet, but it was not an uncomfortable silence. Despite the music in the background coming from Kelsey's phone which was plugged into her Chevrolet, it felt as quiet as a room with no windows, no doors, and no civilization. Zach did not mind, though. He simply enjoyed the company of his girlfriend.
That sounded strange to him, but the truth altogether was odd.
A pounding headache and fatigue remained after Kelsey had dropped Zach off at his house and the two had said a temporary goodbye. His backpack was draped over his left shoulder as he walked up the porch steps and entered his home. Zach knew Hayleigh was waiting for her weekly guitar lesson, which would be a little bit late due to his detention, so he walked upstairs.
"Phew...what a day," he thought to himself with a yawn.
Zach left his room door open for his younger sister and fell tiredly onto his dark blue bedspread. The warmth of his comfort space filled him temporarily and nearly tempted him into taking a well-needed nap, but just the thought of having another dream coaxed him out of the idea. Instead, he decided to retrieve his guitar and prepare it for Hayleigh.
As Zach was tuning the fine instrument solely by ear, the little girl herself walked into his room and sat next to him on his bed. "Hey, Zach!" she chirped happily. "How was detention?"
