Chapter 3 | ❝ Listen and learn. ❞

Monday, November 12th, 2018 - 12:53 p.m.

KELSEY'S SLIGHTLY LONG nails tapped impatiently on her desk while she waited for her Literature teacher, Mr. Richardson, to dismiss the class. It was known by now that Kelsey did not appreciate that current class. Her teacher bored her - and the absent Zach too - to death.

She let out a quiet sigh as she watched the seconds slowly tick by on the wall clock. It seemed as if at Oceanview High, time stood still. It either was a good thing or a bad thing.

In this case, it was a bad thing.

Kelsey began to pack up her books to pass the time. She let her mind wander, which was what it was doing during the entirety of the class period. Mr. Richardson was a very boring teacher whom she disliked. Kelsey was itching to get out of that particular classroom before insanity took her mind and threw it across the room.

Phoebe and Autumn's advice from the video chat the previous night was quite helpful, but Kelsey was unable to settle down and be able to rationally think about the subject at hand. She had done something completely against her morals—her emotions took over, and she was unable to take back the action she had done. It had already happened and there was nothing she was able to do about it.

Or was there?

Kelsey knew of three other people who gave good advice and who she had bonded with over the past couple of months. After Lyla's rather ridiculous plan to sabotage everything, Kelsey found herself becoming friends with Harper, Mason, and August. Of course, they rarely talked or anything, but Kelsey knew nice people when she saw them.

It surely did not seem like the case when it came to her and Lyla's friendship crashing down not long prior. Some people can be so manipulative it hurts.

"I hope I'm doing the right thing," Kelsey pleaded with herself the moment the bell rang.

Mr. Richardson was feeling kind that day, so he decided to let his students leave as soon as possible. "Alright, that's the bell! I expect to see you all have done your readings by tomorrow."

Kelsey eagerly collected her things and stood from her desk. She was in quite a hurry to leave the classroom in order to speak to a certain trio who would possibly be of help to her and her dilemma. They were Zach's best friends, so they knew him quite well, but then again, she did not want to jeopardize her entire situation and make things worse.

Luckily, she shared AP Psychology with Harper next for their sixth block. That was the perfect opportunity to speak to him and ask for his advice. The sandy-haired boy seemed to be quite trustworthy, and he did not appreciate Jaylen either. There was no chance of the secret ever leaking.
