Chapter 14 | ❝ Don't make me cry for nothing.. ❞

Friday, September 28th, 2018 - 4:01 p.m.

THE FRONT DOOR squeaked a bit as Zach opened it and let himself inside of his own home. Even though he was still getting used to the environment after such a quick move before the school year, Zach was able to consider the new house he and his family were living in to be a true home for him. It might have been difficult at first, but Zach was slowly getting used to it.

He had just finished speaking to Kelsey for about five to ten minutes outside before going inside. Ever since she was outside with her friend, Lyla, she had been acting strangely. Zach was puzzled due to her behavior. He asked her multiple times if she was alright and if something was wrong. Each time, Kelsey put a smile on her face and assured him she was perfectly okay.

Zach was not a naive person. He knew something was going on, and it must have been with the friend of Kelsey's speaking to her before the two of them left. He wanted to talk to Kelsey about it and ask what was really going on, but he decided to respect her boundaries and give her space.

The teenager hardly had enough time to adjust himself to his new, yet familiar surroundings before the high pitched voice of his little sister shouted out of nowhere. "Zach! You're home, finally!"

"I was out with a friend, Hayleigh," Zach replied to the small girl with curly hair.

Hayleigh pouted, crossing her arms in a playful manner. "It was too long, though! Can you play with me?"

"Sure. What would you like to play?"

"Stuffed animals?" Hayleigh suggested with puppy dog eyes.

Even though Zach was unable to see her facial expression, he could hear it through her pleading tone. He gave her an exaggerated sigh simply to make her laugh. "Yeah, I guess I can play stuffed animals for a little while."

"Yay!"

Zach smiled when he felt her tiny hand grasp onto his in order to drag him up the stairs. He almost tripped over the first one since he was not expecting it right away, but he chose to ignore the vibrating throb in his stubbed left foot as Hayleigh led him up the stairs. Hayleigh did not seem to notice. She was looking forward to playing with her big brother.

Hayleigh led him into her room, which seemed to be full of positivity and light. Her own little space radiated the color yellow with its cream colored walls, bright yellow bedspread, and her pile of stuffed animals which were different shades of yellow, orange, pink, and other bright pastel colors.

Even if Zach was unable to see it, he could tell by the little light perception he had that the room was bright and cheerful unlike his own softer and darker room, which he enjoyed. Believe it or not, it was better on his eyes since there was nothing to focus on.
