Chapter 16 | ❝ Manipulating her? How? ❞
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 - 3:03 p.m.
THE CONVERSATIONS WITHIN the four walls of Kelsey's smokey gray Chevroletwere ricocheting off the windows and into her ears. Her car, which was seating four people including herself, was much louder than she would have appreciated it to be. Kelsey did not often have a headache, but when she did, they were bad.
This one was no exception.
Kelsey never minded hearing her friends converse amongst themselves as she drove with her radio playing softly in the background. She enjoyed the company of the people she loved and had known for years. The blonde never got tired of their presence, but she was having one of those days where everything seemed to simply be.....going wrong.
She attempted to let herself focus on the quiet music radiating from next to her. Kelsey's hazel eyes were focused on the peaceful road in front of her as she continued on with the car journey from Oceanview High to Moonriver Cafe. Hardly anyone was driving on the roads of Kitty Hawk on the fine afternoon.
The breeze outside on the early autumn day whisked against the windows of Kelsey's vehicle. The sound, as miniscule as the squeak of a mouse, was somehow soothing to her ears, providing her a safe space to think and simply take the world around her in.
Something was definitely off with the time she was currently living in. Lyla had threatened her about her plan to either jeopardize Zach's grades or their friendship and her relationship with Jaylen. The topic stressed her much more than she thought it would have. She needed to think of a solution which would fix everything.
"Kelsey? Is everything okay?" a voice from beside the blonde girl softly interrupted her thoughts.
Kelsey glanced to the side to notice her friend, Phoebe, who had decided to carpool with her rather than drive her own car. Her black hair was styled into tight curls which beautifully complimented her deep brown eyes. "Everything's fine. Thanks, Phoebe."
She half-expected the question to come from her boyfriend, but it did not. Jaylen and she had not conversed as much as she would have liked them to. Kelsey had asked if he wanted to join her in her car to Moonriver Cafe, but Jaylen declined, explaining to her that he wanted to speak to Everett and "the boys" about some things. Being the kind, wholehearted person she was, Kelsey decided not to argue and told him to have fun.
Ever since Jaylen had begun taking his own black vehicle to school, Kelsey had been seeing him less and less. She used to give him rides to school in her own car, but since he had a free period at the start of the day, he did not need to go to class until half past nine. Kelsey found it understandable, but she still missed him.
