Chapter 24 | ❝ Your secret's safe with me. ❞
Wednesday, November 7th, 2018 - 1:51 p.m.
THE AP CHEMISTRY teacher, Mr. Wallace, continued to drone on about a subject which was almost unintelligible to most of the class full of teenagers. The peers appeared bored out of their minds, hardly paying attention to the lecture being given to them.
Of course, there was one exception: August.
The boy with brown hair and glasses vigorously wrote down his notes in a notebook separate from his other one which he wrote his novel in. August would have never wanted to jeopardize the status of his work in progress, which he had been working exceptionally hard and diligently on. Writing was one of August's passions, and the last thing he wanted was his work to become compromised.
Meanwhile, his friend, Mason, was bored to tears, to put it simply. He attempted to find the textbook fascinating to read, but to no avail. Mason wanted to use his phone and scroll through social media, but that would not have worked due to the fact Mr. Wallace despised cell phones, especially when they were in his classroom.
Mason decided the best thing to do to cure his boredom would be to get the attention of August, who he knew would be a bit ticked by it, but grateful for the attention nonetheless. Something was definitely on his mind, and had been for a while. He needed to speak to August about it because he, as much as Mason hated to admit it, was smarter than him.
"Psst," Mason sharply whispered to the boy on his left.
Either August chose to ignore him, or he genuinely did not hear him since he did not respond. Instead, August's eyes were glued to the pages of his chemistry textbook. Mason chose to take a different approach, picking up one of his mechanical pencils and lightly tossing it at his friend.
August flinched when it hit him and clattered to the floor a second after. He muttered an "ow" and turned towards Mason, who simply shrugged at him in a nonchalant way. "...What, Mason?"
"Sorry, I just wanted to get your attention," he whispered apologetically.
The boy with glasses raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Why? We're in class?" he spoke so quietly it was almost as if he was mouthing the words.
"It's important," Mason insisted.
"Can it wait?"
"Probably wouldn't be the best idea."
August sighed quietly and shifted his position so it was slightly facing Mason. He gestured towards him so he would know it was alright for him to talk. Mason beamed at the attention he was given despite the distaste for the environment it would be executed in.
