Chapter 8 | ❝ Enough! ❞
Monday, November 19th, 2018 - 7:30 a.m.
THE MOMENT ZACH'S ear-piercing alarm went off, the teenage boy regretted staying at the pier with Kelsey until about one forty-five in the morning. To fix his train of thought's words, he did not completely regret it. The boy loved sleep more than almost everything and he did not nearly get enough of it the previous night.
His mind was still restless, never giving him a chance to fully enter the realm of slumber. Even Zach's dreams were chaotic with emotions he had never felt before in his life. It was not as if Zach disliked what he was feeling. It was overwhelming to him.
Zach fought the urge to throw his phone across the room as his alarm continued to blare ruthlessly throughout his room. Instead, he carefully picked it up, squinted at the lock screen, and pressed the correct button to turn it off. After a seemingly never-ending yawn, Zach set his phone back on his nightstand and picked up his unfolded glasses, carefully sliding them on his face.
He would never get used to the feeling of them on his face. It annoyed him, but it was a small price to pay for vision which was as close to perfect as it could get.
The teenage boy rolled out of bed, took a quick shower, and found something to wear in about ten minutes' time. Part of him was looking forward to school that morning, but the other part was most definitely not. He was overwhelmed with the concept of school without seeing what he was getting himself into. Having a visual perspective was a whole different story.
By a quarter to eight, Zach arrived downstairs to his mother making breakfast in the kitchen. Mrs. West turned in his direction and smiled, albeit a bit wary. "Morning, Zach," she greeted him softly. "How was it with Kelsey last night?"
Zach cringed at the question. He knew he had arrived back home way too late. "It was good, thanks, Mom."
"What time did you get back?"
"Oh, um, around eleven thirty," Zach fibbed, aware of his mother's skepticism.
However, Mrs. West was testing her son's lying abilities. "Oh, how come I heard some footsteps downstairs around two in the morning?"
"I-...uh, got hungry in the middle of the night so I went downstairs to get a snack," he continued to lie. Zach desperately did not want to get in trouble with his mother.
His mother's eyebrows raised. "I heard the front door as well. Did you go outside to eat your snack?" she interrogated him ruthlessly.
Zach blinked innocently in her direction. "...Maybe?"
"I know you were out late," she sighed, causing Zach's shoulders to slump in defeat. "I'm not mad, but next time, please don't stay out late or at least text your father or I. Okay?"
