Chapter 2 | ❝ Isn't that somewhat dangerous...? ❞

Sunday, November 11th, 2018 - 6:16 p.m.

KELSEY CONTINUED TO fiddle around with her car keys on the surface of the wooden table in front of her. The quiet clicking sound somewhat distracted her overly busy mind, but only for a moment. She knew it was no use, however she continued anyway.

Her eyes were locked on her iPhone, which was sitting face up on the table so she would have been able to see any notification. The ringer was on at a high volume. She was definitely expecting a call from someone, and that someone in particular was a black-haired boy with an endearing personality despite his inevitable condition. It was an understatement to say she was concerned about Zach.

Kelsey dearly hoped she did not make him uncomfortable due to her impulse decision at the airport. A kiss was not as much of a big deal for her as it was for him. She did not know it was his first, and that alone probably would have overwhelmed him anyway. The factor of Zach pushing her away in the midst of it was what concerned her the most out of his emotions.

Do not even get her begun on her feelings with Jaylen. That was a whole different story.

Speaking of the "Leather Jacket Boy," he had been on his best behavior for the past couple of days or so when it came to Kelsey. There was not a mention of Zach anywhere, he was pleasant to be around, and frankly, it seemed too good to be true. Jaylen appeared to be the perfect boyfriend, which reminded Kelsey of freshman year when she first got together with him. It was a dream come true for the fourteen-year-old.

The sneaking suspicion of Jaylen hiding something was rising due to his sudden kindness and sweet nature after such a tensionous time with the girl he loved.

Despite the odd suspicions, Kelsey found herself at a table with her entire friend group of nine including herself, staring at her phone while the rest of them conversed as if nothing had happened between her and Jaylen. Speaking of the Devil, he was sitting next to her, but was acting as if she was not even there. He was too occupied with his friends, Lyla, Miriam, and Kaiden.

Of course, Lyla was a lying fiend to Kelsey after her note-stealing debacle to get Zach away from her in order for Jaylen to feel less insecure, but Miriam and Kaiden appeared to be nice enough. They were all smiles and sharing positive reinforcements with each other. Good thing for Kelsey—she learned how to not judge a book by its cover the hard way.

Luckily, one of her trusted friends who was sitting next to her, Autumn, gently tapped her on the shoulder when she noticed something was off. "Are you okay, Kelsey?" she asked her gently.

"Oh, I'm fine, thank you," Kelsey excused her rather odd behavior. "I'm just expecting a call from someone any minute now."

This caught the attention of Phoebe, who was sitting beside Autumn. "Oh, who?"
