Chapter 25 | ❝ I-I can't do this.. ❞

Sunday, November 11th, 2018 - 10:58 a.m.

HOW ABOUT THIS one? It's blue and looks comfy!"

"I have plenty of jackets."

"What about these? They're pretty cool and give you some height!"

"I have enough shoes."

Hayleigh frowned and stared her older brother in the eyes. "You mean to tell me that you're gonna survive a week-long trip with one jacket, two pairs of jeans, four shirts, and a pair of shoes?" she asked him in disbelief. "Don't even get me started on the underwear."

"I've told you numerous times that I'm packing my own underwear," Zach retorted, holding back a laugh.

"You've only packed three pairs! How are you gonna survive?"

Zach cocked his head to the side. "I'm not finished yet," he explained amusedly. "Plus, there's a place to do laundry at the hotel we'll be staying in."

"Pack more than three pairs," Hayleigh insisted. "That's hardly anything!"

"Fine, I'm just not used to going on trips."

"You need clothes to go on a trip in the first place!" Hayleigh continued to protest before she shouted towards the downstairs floor. "Mom! Dad! Tell Zach to pack more underwear!"

"Zach! Pack more underwear!" the two parents chorused.

Zach rolled his eyes in a faux annoyed manner. "Fine, I'll pack my own underwear. Geez."

While Hayleigh giggled with her feet swinging over the top of the bed, Zach continued to pack his things into his rather small suitcase. Despite hardly being on any vacations, Zach was a light packer, only bringing the necessities and the bare minimum of which he needed. Hayleigh, on the other hand, was the opposite. Her yellow suitcase was about to explode from everything she stuffed inside of it.

As Zach continued to collect his things, he noticed his mind drift further and further from reality. He did not notice the expression on his face growing to be solemn rather than his usually calm and peaceful resting face. It was unique, and not in the best way possible.

Hayleigh blinked in his direction as she watched him pack. She knew something was up with her brother. "Is something wrong?"

"Huh?" Zach turned towards her due to the unexpected question. "Oh, no. Nothing's wrong."

"You look sad."

"I'm not sad, I'm just a bit nervous," he admitted to his sister.

Hayleigh slid off the bed and followed her brother towards his closet, where he was going to pack some more of his belongings. "Nervous about what? It's gonna be fun!"
