Chapter Eight
The rest of the week passed quickly and before I knew it, Friday had arrived. Sam had shaped into her wolf for me. Her fur was auburn and she had chocolate coloured eyes. She explained that female wolfs were smaller than boys. That meant the wolf I had met in the woods was a boy, because he was much bigger than Sam.
My mind was in a daze as I walked to school and I didn't notice that a car was pulling out of its driveway. Suddenly someone's firm grip pulled me out of the way and onto the nature strip.
When I opened my eyes I was surprised to see the face of Marcus looming above me. His body trapped me.
"Uh, thanks for saving me," I stammered nervously painfully aware that I had never been that close to a guy before.
"No problem, you have to be more aware though," he replied still on top of me. We stayed like that for a few moments before I finally asked him to get off me.
Marcus scrambled up before composing himself and reaching his hand out to pull me up. We walked the rest of the journey to school together talking about random things that probably didn't matter.
When we arrived just about every student looked at us. Every one in the popular crowd was all pinning us with death glares especially Cindy, who looked like a violent storm. Although Cindy was going out with Tim, everyone, included Tim, knew she had her sights set on Marcus. It didn't matter to him though, he was a player and if Cindy broke up with him he would just be onto the next best skank.
"I'd better go," I said to Marcus, "your friends are already finding a dozen different ways to separate my limbs from my body, especially Cindy."
"Yeah," he replied, running a hand through his light brown hair.
"See you round though," he said before running off to join his friends. I turned around, ignoring the bystanders who were whispering to each other, and went to find Sam.

The day dragged on and I practically celebrated when the bell for lunch rang. I bought lunch with Sam and then sat down a table with some of our other friends.
Just as I was about to dig in, I saw Cindy walking over, her face as black as thunder. She stopped in front of our table and glared at me. The whole cafeteria fell into unbearable silence.
"What the hell do you think your doing with Marcus?" she asked, her voice dripping with venom.
"Nothing, I was just walking to school with him, is that a crime?" I replied.
She narrowed her eyes at me.
"Stay away from him, slut." She seethed, "he's mine."
"You're just jealous because he's paying me more attention." I said standing up and facing her. "So I suggest you take your sorry little ass back to your table and go crawl back on the lap of your actual boyfriend."
I grabbed my bag and got ready to leave. I don't really know how I did this, but when she went to slap me I grabbed her hand inches before it hit my face. It was almost like I knew it was coming.
Looking at her stunned expression I threw her hand down and smiled sweetly.
"Don't mess with me," I whispered before turning on my heel and leaving the whole cafeteria in an intense state of shock.
