Chapter Ten

The morning sun peeked through the gaps in the curtain streaking my bed with golden rays. My eyes fluttered open and I smiled remembering the events of yesterday. Swinging my legs over the side of my bed I jumped up, relishing the feeling of soft carpet beneath my feet as I raced towards the door. Hopping down the stairs, I let my hand caress the smooth banister and beamed at my mum reached the bottom of the steps.

"Good morning sunshine," Mum said cheerfully as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "What's got you so happy?"

I plunked myself down onto a seat next a counter and leant my chin on my hand.

"I have officially found my mate," I announced staring up at her with a huge smile planted on my face. Spluttering and coughing she choked on her coffee before she gulped it down quickly.

"What?!" She screeched, "Don't tell me it's that stray wolf you found in the woods, he's probably an old pedophile Ava!"

This time it was my turn to choke on my orange juice.

"No, mum the wolf is Marcus." I replied quickly.

"Oh, that's alright then," She said and as she began to understand what that really meant she embraced me in a tight hug.

"Oh my god, my baby is going to be an Alpha," she cried excitedly.

"Mum let go of me, I'm not sure yet if Marcus is even my mate," I said. She stepped away and was about to protest when the phone rang. Talk about saved by the bell. She quickly picked it up.

"Hello, Jill speaking...Oh, it's you alpha...of course...we'll be right there...goodbye," she said hanging up the phone.

"Well?" I asked drumming my fingers on the counter.

"We're paying a visit to the Alpha. You'll be learning how to control your power." She replied picking up her keys and walking over to the door.

"Are you coming or not?" She questioned while opening the door and stepping outside.

I scrambled up and ran out after her. A tsunami of butterflies exploded throughout my body as I knew I would be seeing Marcus again.

We were greeted by Marcus once again when we arrived at the Alpha's house. As I walked past him my arm brushed against his and electric sparks crackled between us igniting my skin. He smiled at me and I smiled under the cover of my chestnut hair knowing that he had felt them too.

As I walked into the lounge I saw that Mum was chatting with the alpha and another man who I assumed was Kyle. So he was the one who would be teaching me about my gift. He looked to be in his mid twenties and he had chocolate brown hair. When he looked at me I felt myself absorbed in his emerald green eyes.

"Ahh Avalon," Alpha Michael said as I walked over to stand by my mum. "This is Kyle, he will help you to understand your power more. He has the power of foresight, or in more modern terms, the ability to see portions of the future."

"It's a pleasure to meet you," he said, his voice flowing gently like milk and honey as he stuck his hand out for me to shake. Although he was attractive man, I didn't feel the same sparks I felt when I touched Marcus, confirming that Marcus was indeed my mate.

"I'll take you to the basement where you can begin your training," Alpha Michael said while ushering us towards a set of steps leading down to the basement. The feeling of Kyle's cool fingers was somewhat unwelcoming as he put his hand on the small of my back and guided me down the winding staircase.

I glanced behind me quickly to see Marcus with a look of disdain planted to his face. He was clenching his fists tightly and his knuckles had turned white. And as he went out of my sight both my wolf and I ached for him.

We stopped in front of a door and Kyle opened it gesturing for me to go inside. There was something I didn't like about him. He flicked the light switch on and I went over to sit on one of the couches inside the room. He sat down on the armchair opposite me. He gave me a sly leer and said with a face of unreadable emotion, "Well then, let's begin."
