Chapter Twelve

Marcus stood in my driveway leaning against his car, when he saw me he shot me one of his signature smiles. I'd read romance novels before, but this was the first time I had seen their sentences materialised and it made my heart do all the cliché things I'd heard about.

I had gotten over the trauma of Saturday and was ready to move on. It was Monday now and Marcus was picking me up. I didn't care what Cindy and the others thought, I was entitled to be with my mate if I wanted to. We had officially became a couple the night before when we met in our special spot by the lake and he'd asked me out.

I smiled at the thought, but quickly snapped out of my daydream when I realised that I had to go to school. I picked up my bag and dashed down the stairs flinging open the front door.

"Bye honey," my mum called from the kitchen.

"Bye Mum," I called back as I closed the front door behind me. I smiled at Marcus who was still leaning against the door of his BMW. As I came closer he kissed me quickly and opened the door for me. I was only just realising how much of a hopeless romantic he really was.

He stepped inside and revved the engine. He grabbed my hand and smiled softly at me. I guess he could sense that I was a bit nervous after all.

"Ready?" he said staring me straight in the eye. "Remember, I won't ever let the others hurt you. I only hang out with some of them because they rank highly in the pack and Dad wants me to."

I nodded and he backed out of our drive and continued down the street.

When we arrived at school and stepped out of the car everyone immediately looked at us, pinning us down with their glares.

Marcus held my hand again and gave it a squeeze. I smiled weakly up at him, took a deep breath and kept walking towards the main building. I started panicking as Cindy stormed towards us but soon calmed down when Marcus whispered reassurance to me.

"What the hell are you doing with this slut?" she demanded stopping in front of us and giving me a death glare.

"You know you can do so much better," she said seductively to him snaking her hand around his waist and pulling him away from me. My wolf exploded with rage within me at the fact that Cindy was taking away my mate and so did I.

I couldn't help but being a bit smug when Marcus pushed her away and encircled his arm around my waist pulling me closer to him.

"I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk about my mate like that." Marcus said calmly, but protectively.

She froze at his words, before snapping out of it and giving me a disgusted look.

"Fine," she seethed before turning on her heel and walking away.

We continued to walk again when suddenly someone grabbed my arm from behind. I turned around and was met with the very excited face of Sam.

"I need to borrow her for a minute," she said to Marcus as she began pulling me away.

"I'll see you in English," he shouted to me before walking into the main building and disappearing around a corner.

I turned back to Sam and she raised her eyebrows at me.

"Care to explain..." she said while tapping her foot expectantly.

"You were right, he is my mate." I replied.

"I knew it," she screamed pointing her finger at me. "You must now address me as 'oh Wise and Glorious One.'"

I rolled my eyes and grabbed her arm.

"Come on oh Wise and Glorious One. We'll be late for class." I said to her pulling her along with me. She gave me a sidewards hug and I gave her a quick hug back.

I didn't have physics with Cindy but that didn't save me from the wrath of her friends. As I walked down the aisle I saw Sasha sneering at me and pinning me down with a death glare. Deciding to ignore her I turned my head away and proceeded to take my seat.

Placing my books on the table, I tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear before flipping my textbook to the chapter we were studying. Suddenly the guy sitting next to me tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a neatly folded piece of note paper.

I unfolded it to reveal three painfully chilling words written in cursive scrawl. "Watch your back."

My eyes immediately snapped up to find Sasha who was faced towards the front. Closing my eyes and taking in a ragged breath, I calmed my nerves. She was just trying to get to me.

When my eyes reopened I saw our teacher walk into the room.

"Good morning class," She trilled as she sat down at her desk at the front of the classroom, "Now today we'll be doing an experiment in partners."

"The partners have already been picked so I'll read them out now," She explained as she pulled out a list. She read out the names one by one and I dozed off a little until I heard my name being called.

"Avalon Cantatis and Sasha Robson," She announced. My heart flipped and I turned my head slowly to face my unfortunate partner. Her hand shot up and I could see her fuming inside.

"Yes Sa-" Ms Weathers started before Sasha cut her off.

"I refuse to work with such a deceitful little goody two shoes," she screeched shooting daggers at me.

"Ms Robson, I will not tolerate that sort of language towards a fellow class mate," Ms Weathers said, clearly shocked, "The partners are not debatable, now get to your benches."

Everyone stood up and formed partners at the benches including me. I saw Sasha reluctantly stand up and storm over to me with the materials we needed for our experiment.

She stood next to me silently and I rolled my eyes at her childishness before picking up the prac report.

"Ok If you could just get-" I started before she held up her hand apprehensively.

"No." She stated bluntly, cutting me off without any further thought.

"Fine!" I fumed, exasperated with her stubbornness.

**************

The rest of the lesson continued as expected with me doing all the work and Sasha sitting there looking pretty. Occasionally she would add the random 'your doing it wrong' or knock over a test tube by 'accident'. It's safe to say that by the end of the lesson my patience was at its end.

The bell rung out signaling the end of the lesson and I packed up quickly, eager to get away from Sasha as soon as possible.

"Thanks for all of your help Sasha," I said in the sweetest voice I could muster as I made to leave the classroom. Stopping abruptly I turned around and added, "and tell Cindy to stop making other people do her dirty work for her."

A quick flash of fear crossed Sasha's face before she wiped her face of emotion.

"You know nothing," she hissed before she ran out of the classroom ahead of me.
